Title: Data output issue using Raspberrypi v3 B+ and ConsoleWD issue 17.3
Post by: Redsafety on April 12, 2018, 02:53:43 PM

Hi all,
Could I have some assistance in resolving the following:-

I have encountered the same symptoms as senapsys as documented within https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,61722.msg493599.html#msg493599 In that the data from a Davis weather envoy 6314 via a serial to USB adapter is not being decoded consistently despite experimenting with different comms settings. I have attached two screen dumps of  examples of the data output from ConsoleWD, I have also attached a copy of the config file.
Up to now, I have been using Cumulus for displaying my data and have had no obvious data issues, however now I would like to use weather display using the very new Raspberrypi v3 B+.

Best regards

did you try changing
Davis com method=2  // 1 for regular  2 for special davis serial read
to 1
I will do some testing here  later today

Hi,
Thank you for the feedback, yes I have experimented with that comms setting if you set it to 1 you  get:-
requesting data
requesting data
and so on

which is the same  as documented by "senapsys"within https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,61722.msg493599.html#msg493599

I have tested here
it works great
(after initial start up where its a bit slow to get going)
then after the first data has arrived, its synced up and flys along nicely
maybe try updating the silicon labs usb driver you have?

Hi
Thank you for the feedback, I have done a sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, however as you can see by the attachment still having problems. What is my route to doing any form of diagnostics and what data stream should I expect?
The only positive at the moment is another person had the same issue.

Have you a timescale for when you would be able to revisit your code?

Best regards

it certainly is not a widespread problem
have you waited to see if the data gets in sync OK?
since I can not duplicate the problem here is not easy

but I will review the code and see if I can make an improvement that might help and let you know

Thank you for the update, I have left it running for ~5 minutes and the output is as per my post.
what output format should I be seeing?
can you suggest any debugging technique that I can do at my end to help you?

try a new update (vers 17.3)
for raspberry pi3 version
and then in the config.txt
add
Davis timeout=250

and then try making that time out value a different number (e.g start at 0)
(restarting the program each time)
and see if that helps

Hi
I have a problem with just launching the new version of the program in that in the past I have been able to try to test out via using:-
cd /home/pi/Desktop/consolewdfiles/
sudo ./consolewd

However I am now getting the following status:-
[email protected]:~ $ cd /home/pi/Desktop/consolewdfiles/
[email protected]:~/Desktop/consolewdfiles $ sudo ./consolewd
sudo: ./consolewd: command not found
[email protected]:~/Desktop/consolewdfiles $

I have also tried out as per your readme but get the same status:-

[email protected]:~ $ cd /home/pi/Desktop/consolewdfiles/
[email protected]:~/Desktop/consolewdfiles $ sudo ./GoWdconsole.sh
sudo: ./GoWdconsole.sh: command not found
[email protected]:~/Desktop/consolewdfiles $

I have reverted back to the previous version and using the same commands as I normally use

cd /home/pi/Desktop/consolewdfiles/
sudo ./consolewd

I am able to get the programme to respond as you're aware of. Thus what am I overlooking to do correctly?

that problem usually happens when you are running e.g version for rasberry pi2 on rasberry pi3

Thank you, you were spot on.
I have attached a file of the data I am receiving with a timeout of 255. Before I start to alter this parameter as you have asked me to, could you provide me with an example of the data format run that I should be receiving?
Thank you

Post by: Redsafety on May 19, 2018, 05:04:12 PM
Sorry should have said timeout 250
Title: Re: Data output issue using Raspberrypi v3 B+ and ConsoleWD issue 17.3
Post by: Weather Display on May 19, 2018, 06:56:30 PM
you should see a data count of 99 and so then no split out to a smaller count and then you should see the converted to actual data output after that
there are threads in the actual linux section of the forum with outputs of what it should look like

Hi

Sorry, but to me, your answer is too vague.

As far as your reference to the linux section, could you point me to the example you are referring to or provided a search team?

Thank you for your time in trying to resolve the problem.

Best Regards

there is a linux section here on this forum
and there are lots of threads
including some recent ones where people have shown the data output (i.e what it should look like)
you should not be seeing a number less than 99 and splitting out into a smaller number (received number)

not sure how I can make that any clearer

Hi
Am I presuming this is the correct data I should be receiving? https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,64975.msg521994.html#msg521994

I have as suggested tried the timeout parameter using different values 0 produced "segmentation fault"

30,50,100,150 did not show the correct output format just like 250 reported in my previous post
Title: Re: Data output issue using Raspberrypi v3 B+ and ConsoleWD issue 17.3
Post by: Weather Display on May 20, 2018, 07:17:20 PM
yes, that is what you should be seeing
and yes, that is the sort of time out values to try, but also try bigger values (e.g 500)
(make sure to restart after making that change and also make sure to check that that value is picked up in the start up messages)

one thing, this time out variable is only used when you have set in the config.txt file
Davis com method=2
what do you have that set as?

oh
I just realised I was setting the time out wrong in the code
and so that is why it made no difference

use a new update, vers 17.4
from the download page, for raspberry pi 3
and then set the Davis timout as 1 to start off with and then go up from there (milliseconds)

if you need the raspberry pi2 version, let me know

Hi again
updated as you can see via the attached. With a delay of 1 the output looked the same as before, for delays of 10  and 20 you will be able to see what I received.

Title: Re: Data output issue using Raspberrypi v3 B+ and ConsoleWD issue 17.3

the higher value (ie 20) made things worse
so it looks like the data read time out is not helping
so I need to look at managing a data split next instead

Hi
It's looking good; my only observations at the moment are that the first record that was logged in Att 1 52018lg file seems to be corrupted and due to anomalies regarding the way the ***Received count** is displayed i.e. at 17:05:22 and 17:05:23 v two counts loggings at 17:06:08 and 17:06:10, I have provided attachment 2 Test Data, so I can confirm with you that the data format is as you would have expected.

Could you help with the following questions please.

Using this data and a Raspberry Pi version 3 have you produced a graphical interface so it can be displayed in a more friendly way?

The time stamp is incorrect both hours’ and minutes however my PC clock is correct how do I adjust this?

yes
double click on the wdpi program
and make sure consolewd is set to create the clientraw.txt file

Hi
Thank you for the heads-up . FYI, I have run wdpi successfully.

I have also ascertained that if I connect the Pi to the internet the date stamp now reports GMT, not BST. So my question now is how do you adjust within your programme for the 1-hour difference.

Hi,
I will try that next time, however, your idea about setting up the Pi fixed the problem.

Regarding using the “wdpi” program how much time has to elapse before you start seeing data on the graphs, I ask this as no data is being displayed at the moment.

Regarding my post of the June 22 what is your view of the data I attached and the erroneous data?

I tried your suggestion but it did not work.

Run the main program, started dpi at 17:41 26/06/18 run it until 18:15 still with the main programming running closed wdpi and then restarted it, however still no chats displayed.
Have attached screen dump and the log file.

once data was being logged I then opened wdpi  no chat were displayed

still keeping consolewd logging data I closed wdpi  then reopened dpi  still no chats were displayed

I suspect those GDK errors are the issue

another way to see the data would be to setup meteotemplate
or
fresh WDL
or similar

I do see the graph OK when I run WDPI with the data files you posted
it might be that I have a different version of the GDK library installed (maybe you could look into updating that?)

How do I update the GDK library?
FYI, I have already used the sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get dist-upgrade commands
Are you using a using Raspberrypi v3 B+ as well?

Hi
Looking good, Using the same data set as I did in my previous post, I have attached three screen dumps SD1 the original scaling SD2 your new scaling and SD3 zoom mode.
My only comment is that it would be nice if you could zoom in and out over the full range of data available to me, ie if you could zoom between data content of SD1 full range and well as SD3.

Best regards

when you say zoom, I think you are meaning the graphing interval?

Hi
Probably, I drew a box around the area of interest on the graph and using your words the graphing interval increased.

using my words?
it looks like what you are doing is using the zoom function built into the graphing component
where you can use right mouse click and hold and drag to create a zoomable box area (when you let go)
what is SD1 and SD3?

Hi
As I said in my post of the 6 July, Using the same data set (see this posts attachment) I have attached three screen dumps SD1 was using your original scaling SD2 your new scaling and SD3 zoom mode. As you highlighted correctly in your previous post the reference I made to zoom mode is via the built-in the graphing component.

it was not clear to me that SD meant screen dump
the attachment does not contain any image files

one problem with the box zoom is its not easy to go back to normal zoom level?
