IMPORTANT: URL confusion * 2
« on: June 29, 2005, 11:43:47 AM »
1) I appear to have introduced some confusion with the wording I've used in the Man Centre to describe the URL of an MML map. I'll try to find a better way to describe this, but please note that this field should contain the URL of the web page that the MML map appears on and not the URL of the JPG map image. The URL is used to add your pages into the index, so if it's set to the JPG file people just see a blank map image and probably wonder what all the fuss is about!

2) When setting up clientraw data provision the Clientraw file URL should include the clientraw.txt filename that the data is to be collected from. So this value should look like...

Code: [Select]
http://blackpool.weather-watch.com/clientraw.txt
and not just ...

Code: [Select]
http://blackpool.weather-watch.com
I've corrected a number of the type (2) problems, but if you can check your records and update any that are wrong that would be very useful. I can do this in most cases, but I need to track down the correct URL first which can sometimes take a bit of finding! I also intend adding more validation to this code in the future which should reduce the opportunity to enter something other than I was expecting.

http://wxd.weather-watch.com/mml_sys/maintain_map.php?map=1 for the MML URL for this map field should contain just the URL to our MML site, is that correct?   http://weather.dcrooks.net/mesomaplive  and not   http://weather.dcrooks.net/mesomaplive/sacramento.jpg   ??

So if I use the stand-alone MML, this URL should remain the same for all my maps since the actual site URL doesn't change...

Yes...the page will normally end with htm/html/php/asp and not JPG. You are correct about having to use the same URL for all Standalone MML maps. There's a note on the wish list for a future version to try to fix this and make the URLs able to point to specific maps.

Problem partly solved. I've added some more validation so that when you enter the URL for your clientraw.txt file, the server checks that a file exists at the specified location and also that it looks like a clientraw.txt file, i.e. it begins with 12345.

That will remove some errors! Now to fix the map URL problem.

I had actually done that myself.... put the map file rather than the link to the mml.

I didn't notice until I selected it from the master list and ended up with just a picture. #-o

All you need is Time, Aptitude and Desire ... and you can build just about anything...

The validation to check that you've enter a URL that's not an image file ending in JPG or JPEG is now in place.

so...
I go in to change the coordinates on my map, they are a bit screwy . I mean Iowa is in the ocean. Well ..

I get this red thingy saying that this isn't the url of the map
http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/NorthAmerica1.jpg

Then I get inspired to make the map a bit different and enter new coordiantes and a new map
http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/NorthAmerica2.jpg

and it then has the red url error...   I think I will definitely quack up

so if I write http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/
I get it to take it but no stations.

That can't be right
