MESO Maps

Beginning to fool with this. I have got to the part where I choose an image file. Where is that file to come from? Dose anyone know of a thread that contains directions to setting these up, besides the online help?

There have been threads that talk about the meso maps, but I can never find anything on these forums so will answer your question here.

The image can be anywhere your machine can reach, the local harddrive or a local network mapped drive. I keep my files in the local wdisplay/webfiles directory.

Here are a couple of suggestions from other posts…

Another interesting concept is noted in this post, using a dynamic image, such as a radar image…

so when I hit choose map image file I select whatever image i find that suits me?

What I did was located a couple of different maps images that I thought would work, downloaded them (saved them to my hard drive) and when creating my mesomap I selected one of those images from my hard drive.

I created a subdirectory under C:\WDisplay named Maps just for organizing these images…

I saved a gif file of a map. i went to choose map image file selcted it and nothing came up?

I am running 10.22r and I can select either a .gif or .jpg as the background map image for a mesomap.

Did you view the image file from your Local Hard drive to ensure you can view it normally and nothing is wrong with the image?

hmmm, cannot seem to find a New York State Map in a gif or jpeg

Like this?

Just “Google” New York State Map and start hunting

Thanks bob. Cannot see to get it all to uplaoad

make sure you set the map width and map height other than zeros

Here try this Larry,

Step one: Go to this URL: http://www.actionstep.com/WD/NYmap.jpg
Right click on the image and select “Save Image as” or similar…

Save it to somewhere you will know where it is on your hard drive.

Step two: Click “Setup - Control Panel”
Tick the number of the mesomap you are going to work with then press “Position Stations”

Then Press “choose map image file” and select the image you just saved to your hard drive…

Then Click “Ok”

Then under mesomap again make sure the same mesomap is selected and then press “Mesomap setup”

Then press “add a Metar Station” enter the 4 letter code followed by “.TXT” for a metar station you know (All Caps) like:
KNYC.TXT then press “OK” then Enter a Name like “NYC” and press Ok again

Then press “Update Now” after it updates then Press “Setup auto times” and select a time range like “Every 15 mins” and turn the switch On and then tick “Produce and upload animate” You can leave Minutes to wait at one but I have mine set to two… Then click OK. Then Click OK in the main Screen.

Then go back to “Postion Stations” and move the block where you want it. Then click Ok and then Click Ok on Control Panel…

If all goes correctly wait 15 - 20 minutes or so and then look in your default upload directory on your web server for:
mesomaphot.htm
mesomaphot2.htm
mesomaphot3.htm

Depending on which mesomap you choose to setup…

This is one area where a bit of patience pays off making change allowing WD to upload on a schedule and then seeing how it looks and then adjusting from there…

I hope this helps,
Bob

great help there, Jax weather
could you post that same guidline in the tips/tricks/hints/help section?

much appreciated

Bob,

Great work. I will do that but my wife is yelling at me about not spending any time with her. imagine.

Hi Brian,

Sure will, let me polish it a bit LOL

Hey Larry you probably already have but here is what appears to be a really well balanced set of metar locations for PA - NY - NJ. Juct click on a dart to get the Metar Code…

In fact may be useful to many :dunno:

my wife turns the monitor off then stands/sits between the me and the pc monitor

Bob

Here is what i get.
http://www.laltshul.com/test/mesomaphot.htm

Well pfffftttttt…

In fact after I wrote my response last night I went ahead and with an extra installation of WD created a new Mesomap, from scratch, following my own directions… (using a downloaded dynamic image)

http://www.actionstep.com/WeatherWebCam/mesomaphot2.htm

Ok simple questions…

When you open mesomap 1, “position stations” from WD you see your map image and you also see the data blocks for the Metars you have chosen?

When you view Station Setup and press “Setup auto times” the switch is turned on and times are shown for updates and “Produce and upload animate” and “Upload at next scheduled update” are both ticked?

If the above are all true then I am lost and you will need more experienced help i am afraid…

-Bob

I do not see the image when i go to position. When i saved it my only choice was to a bmp file?

Hi again Larry,

Did you try the image I uploaded for you, which is a .jpg file?

If you cannot see the map image locally then you will have to work on getting a suitable image and then saving it in the proper format so you can use it as the background…

http://www.actionstep.com/WD/NYmap.jpg

Just try and right click on the above link and see if you can simply “Save link as” and it should save it as the .jpg file which you would be able to then set as the map background…
