2 Cyclones approach Samoa

Things are not looking too good in Samoa. This is off the BBC site.

[color=Blue]Olaf was expected to become a Category Five Super-Cyclone, the most powerful on the scale.

If these predictions are correct, many communities could be battered by huge waves and flooded by heavy rain.

Olaf is forecast to move towards the southern Cook Islands, where it could collide with Nancy.

Many tourists have left coastal resorts, and residents from low-lying areas have moved into cyclone shelters.

Officials at the Australian-Pacific Centre for Emergency and Disaster Information said that two cyclones in such close proximity was unusual and very dangerous.

A state of emergency has been declared in Samoa and all offices and businesses have been closed.

Tropical storm warnings have also been issued to other small states in the region, including Tuvalu, Niue and the Wallis and Futuna islands.

Here’s hoping that there is not too much damage or any loss of life.
