Realtime FTP

A continuation of this thread: http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/70595

I’m still seeing the clientrawrealtimeftp.exe program stop working. The 5 minute restart keeps the site from going stale. But it never used to stop like this. This is the last bit of the screen I could grab before a new instance popped up.

This log is all about success, FTP hasn’t stopped :?

I just caught it while hung. It’s just setting there, not doing anything.

I did a reset, and after about 20 seconds, it resumed uploading.

Ah, sorry. . . I have to admit I have caught it like that, too, and a reset does work, but my WD computer is unattended so I rarely see it. I have never been able to work out why it happens or how to cure it so I usually just leave it to restart itself. That’s why I get about 30 dead realtimeftp icons a day in the system tray ever since Brian added the “Kill process. . .” setting.

A Forum search will bring up lots of references to realtime ftp stopping - like this one referenced in another recent thread - so you are not alone.

As mentioned in the example, letting WD restart FTP itself can take several minutes so I run a second FTP to upload customtext, clientraw and customclientraw every minute - belt and braces (or should that be suspenders?) - just to keep the data ticking over.

That second FTP (Control Panel > FTP & Connections > General FTP Functions) never seems to fail, it’s only realtimeftp. . . :frowning:

OK, I’ve made those changes, I think. I’ll watch it for awhile now.

Thanks for the tip.

Things have been running better. But I think my issue is with GoDaddy. Today, I tried to FTP down a full copy of my site to archive into a ZIP file. About 870 megs total. I had about a dozen time outs. Took an hour to complete. In the past, it went way faster and never had a timeout.

Sometime in October, I’ll be moving to ICDSoft. For now, I think the tweaks above are keeping the site running better. No more than 1 minute stale. That’ll have to do until I move.
