CAn I use METAR just for wind speed?
« on: April 15, 2019, 09:18:30 AM »
Having had an issue with my anemometer so I have no wind speed (have direction OK) I was thinking about trying to use a METAR local to me to use just wind speed and nothing else whil I decide what to do about my anemometer. Looking at the options it would seem like I can use both wind and direction or just direction from the METAR.

Can someone please confirm if I can use a METAR to to add wind to my WD and use the VP1 for the everything else? If so what options do I need to set to use just this METAR data please?

Stuart

Hi Stuart,
In the past on the odd occasion due to sensor issues I have used temperature data or pressure data from a METAR. I think all I did was to tick the relevant box only in the "data from METAR" section, and all the other data kept coming in from the station OK. When my anemometer failed I did not try to get speed from the METAR, so Maybe try ticking the box and see what happens? But would it be useful though as a METAR only updates at 30 or 60 minute intervals?
