Wxsimate not showing any https options for me

I am running the latest 7.2 version and none of the RAOB SYNOP or METAR show an https option but all works OK. Just asking since other threads have problems when not using https. Is this maybe because I am not in the USA? Do I have something needing to be updated?

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Can you post a screen shot? There is a weird display issue that I’ve seen on occasion, where those boxes disappear. It’s a very aprticular setting in Windows, but I can’t recall if it’s a screen resolution thing or some font size option. In any case, if it’s what I’m imagining here (pending pics) it’s a setting that can be changed. It’s not specific to Version 7.2 of WXSIMATE, though. I’ve seen it three or four times over that last 10 years or so.

Tom

Ver. 7.2 went to proxy rather than https URLs.

James

So what you are saying is that the URL selected is not accessed directly but via a hidden proxy which is not shown on the associate screen?

Stuart

Hello Stuart

I’m no expert on this, so maybe Tom or another forum member can chime in. As I understand it, the wxsim.net proxy server does the necessary security actions (https) to allow you to get the SYNOP/METAR data.

James

Stuart, I think I’ve got these proxies displaying just like the regular URL’s would. I’d like to see a screen shot of WXSIMATE, to see if it’s that display problem I was talking about.

Or maybe I misunderstood. Yes, a lot of the sites now use a proxy because of they changed to a secure server, and https alone doesn’t do the trick in my software (it’s some SSL/TLS issue), so I had to resort to going through a proxy Sam Bohler set up for me, for these sites.
