GFS will be dismiss?

I read on the web that GFS will be abandoned on January 24th in favor of a new model called FV3 (Finite volume cube sphere). Is it true?

Been in the works a long time NOAA to develop new global weather module

Looking 10 years ahead, the GFS model with the FV3 core will run in higher resolution and be able to zoom in on smaller and smaller storm systems to provide forecasters better pictures of how storms will evolve.

Recent Ars Technica article.

While NOAA has revamped what's under the hood, the end results should remain more or less the same and, we hope, more accurate than ever.

As I read the above they are changing the internal core process to the more accurate FV3 but the output will still be GFS (almost?) as we know it.

Confirmed…new model will be called FV3.

And Wxsim?

This is just a new version of GFS. I don’t think it will make any difference in WXSIM, except the forecasts may be slightly better!
