New Zealand summer xmas tree in flower :)

a native tree, called a Pohutakawa

Gorgeous. So much better than the cold and damp stripping the leaves from out own trees.

Gone from godzone for 50+ years, and I still miss the kiwi christmas’s, sunshine, beaches, bbq’d mid-afternoon dinners…

And of course, the Pohutakawas. We had 2 in our yard (in Herne Bay) - they were about 60 years old when I left, they’re over 100 now I suppose.

With birthday also in December, I do get kinda nostalgic this time of year.

Metrosideros. If you

USDA Hardiness Zones 9 - 11, so Pohutakawa/Metrosideros should grow OK where you are

Very nice! Looks rather like our bottlebrush trees, but totally different family.

their are also different varieties that grow in the Pacific, e. g Fiji and Hawaii
they are a coastal tree: do not like frosts
