The time is approaching for me to replace the netbook that’s run Weather Display for the last 10 or 11 years - with another Netbook!
The original netbook was running copied and updated WD dating back to 2003 when I first started (Obs IBM Thinkpad), and since then, I’ve only ‘over-installed’ new releases. There are literally thousands of files in it now, mostly log, data, and webfiles, and I’m sure that in the ‘root’ WD, there some left overs also.
I have many data, gifs, jpgs, pgm components dating to 2004, 2005…
The current system indicates 10.37s-B66, as every now and then I install the .zip files.
Since the new system will be a Netbook XP SP3, I remember there are some issues with the newer compilation of WD on XP systems.
What I plan to do:
1 - Full back ups (plural)
2 - A clean install of the last good XP compatible release (37R-B81, IIRC) in a clean WDisplay folder
2A - Unzip the latest wdisplay.zip – (or should I d/l the latest build installer?)
3 - Move the log files, data files, web files etc over
4 - Install the backup of Wdisplay.ini, Wdisplayftp.reg
5 - Copy over any files I’ve made changes to (testtags etc)
6 - Double check everything,
– and start weatherdisplay.exe.
Does this sound like a solid plan, a good start, or am I overlooking something?
I’d be grateful for all help, info, advice.
Thanks
Ken
PS - I plan to do all this on the ‘new’ netbook, don’t want to chance destroying my current system setup, even tho’ it’s failing.
