try
open a terminal window
then go

until you are in the root directory
then
ls /dev/tty.*

and see what is listed

“i have the serial to usb cable” - might be worth to confirm if lstrip has the Davis USB Weatherlink, or a Serial Weatherlink and a third party serial to usb cable.

oh, true
his device list mentions prolific usb
so that means a driver for that is needed

this one might work
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/universal.dmg

tried the new driver. still no luck.
here is the terminal response.
S-Mac-mini:~ larry$ ls/dev/tty.*
-bash: ls/dev/tty.*: No such file or directory

you are missing a space after ls

sorry
here is the result
LS-Mac-mini:~ larry$ ls /dev/tty.*
/dev/tty.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port

the downloaded drivers are not showing up.
i have restarted after each download
larry

also upgraded os to mojave 10.14
no changes

all I can say is that serial drivers under OSX are a PITA

i would agree that trying to get wd to run on my mac has been a pita.
brian, i appreciate your help but don’t know where else to turn for help.
i have had wd on windows platform for many years but my pc is on its last leg.

larry

WD runs fine
the problem is with USB drivers, and that is a problem with OSX (unix)
Linux is much better

@lstrip: Could you answer this question?

Niko
Not sure how to identify what I have.
Purchased from Davis.
Larry

OK, I think that means you have the Davis USB weatherlink and need the Silicon Labs (silabs) driver. Unfortunately there are plenty of posts on the 'net about silabs drivers not working with recent Apple OS’s :frowning:

Wrong, see below.

but the usb info from the apple devices report mentions prolific
so I suspect he might have a serial data logger and a usb to serial convertor
can you post some pictures lstrip

here are pics of my data logger

OK, so you have a Serial data logger from Davis, and a serial/USB adaptor from some other company.

yes
so
he needs to to find the correct driver for OSX for his USB to serial adpator

See the note: http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/ShowProduct.aspx?p_id=229&pcid=41

SUCCESS!
Thanks Brian and Niko for all of your help!
My son told me today that once you go Mac, you never go back!
Hopefully that is true.
