Yeah, CARB must be providing them. If you go to the PurpleAir map and do a search for your air quality management district i.e. shastaaqmd, bcaqmd, fraqmd in the sensor name, you will see a list of them starting with CARB_SMOKE_SHASTAAQMD_xxxx. I found 10 of them for SHASTAAQMD. Actually, there may be more. I think they only list the first 10.

Looks like we just got another push of smoke into our area. The AQI went from 160 to 210. The TV weatherman said last night it was supposed to get better today, NOT.

It’s been bad around here too. It hasn’t dropped below 100 AQI since Nov. 8. You can see the big spike we had today on the chart where it got up to over 200 AQI. It’s dropped back down to around 180 since then.
I noticed that too. I don’t know what heck is going on but, AQ has definitely gotten worse again, back up to over 200 AQI and no wind. We didn’t have a new fire pop up somewhere did we?
Edit: I guess this is the reason why. This fire is not even 10 miles from me and started about the same time our AQ went south.

Stagnant, smoky air here at the head of the valley today
Butte County doesn’t seem to be doing a very good job of sheltering Camp fire evacuees resulting in a large tent city having sprung up in the Walmart parking lot
AQI has been bouncing the 200 mark here all day. Ventured outside for a while and all you can see everywhere is haze and smoke with visibility about a mile. And just when thought things couldn’t get worse:
Not telling you anything you don’t know, but interesting that Auntie BBC mentions Purple Air here before the EPA/AirNow. . . and quotes meaningless cigarette-equivalents.
You can add Amador County Air District to the list of PurpleAir users. I also noticed 4 new PurpleAir sensors came online in my area the last couple of days. Purpleair is getting quite a boost. Rain in the forecast on Wednesday and rest of the week which should finally clear out the smoke, hope, hope, hope.
Did you know? The Amador Air District has placed Air Quality sensors in our area to read the local real time Air Quality Index (AQI). To view the sensors readings please visit https://www.purpleair.com for current Air Quality information.
I think it was more the southwesterly wind from the ocean that helped clear out the smoke. The rain was helpful, but the clean air from the Pacific was likely the bigger factor.
