GDPR and the forum

I am starting to see quite a few issues surrounding the new EU regulations called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and in at least one case something I’ve been using for quite a while now (not weather related) is closing next Monday (12th March) because the person running it feels that GDPR is too much to handle. One of the things being said is that in some cases geoblocking will start to happen to EU based users by US and possibly other regions to remove their exposure to GDPR stopping EU users from using their services and this in particular may preevent EU based folks from hosting outside of the EU. These new regulations which come into force in May 2018 seem to place quite a large amount of regulation relating to how data which may identify people will be handled/protected and deleted on demand by end users.

I guess Chris (admin) will be well aware of this because he works in IT anyway but there are questions about how GDPR may/may not apply here.
