Not surprised. Him and his cronies have been gutting every other government agency.

and I know we are not doing politics per se, but these two videos shed a lot of light on Trump and the NWS. We have a president and administration who are not remotely scientific and we wonder why he does these things? Hmmmmm

Oh, I think you are [-X

Damn! you might be correct. However, the loss of 248 forecasters when we have had serious hurricanes and you know we probably will have more as time goes on, to eliminate that number of positions is pretty terrible, in a safety area. The two videos were intended to show the logic of hiring people who are not qualified to run agencies.

I suspect the long term outcome is similar to the wife and me dining out . We had a discussion on how can someone like a certain type of fast food. We have had it before and it wasn’t that good. I brought up that if you never had anything better than that product, you would think that is the way things should be. We on the other hand have had some fine cuisine out and know that better things are available

Similarly if we educate the public to believing that a lower quality product is the industry standard, and they never advance beyond that point, then they won’t know what they are missing out. by offering upcoming generations a lesser informed, protected, educated, pallet, then we can do all sorts of things that they won’t know about.

The present adult population will eventually die out or fall from grace, leaving in control, the less informed, and educated to a certain point. IF Trump was eliminating those forecasters because of technology and we have a super computer doing their jobs and they are reduntant, then sure it makes sense. However …

Where was your outrage in 2013 when the previous administration cut their budget? National Weather Service budget cuts misguided, misplaced

I see no response (so far) when you flipped the (same) true coin over to the other side. Hum…

I think we will need to resort to other methods of forecasting the weather. Such as the Weather Rock. And our mail carrier. Every time he wears shorts in the winter,we get a huge snow storm. Now snow is predicted for this weekend. we are having a lot of melting which is great as the pile has dropped 5 inches. However, I think he is better than the groundhog.

Another article on the subject. Everyone should write or call their congressperson and let them know that this is not acceptable.

And beyond that, we have absolutely no knowledge of “exactly” what jobs are going to be cut. Could it just possibly be they are non-critical, administrative/managerial jobs that are nothing more than excess? It’s dangerous to react immediately to obviously targeted news items without having solid facts behind our reactions. I would also say that since the news article quoted comes from someone in the National Weather Service Employees Organization (NWS
