Help on Moving WD and Davis Vantage Pro2 to new PC

It ias ages since I installed my Davis Pro2 (using a USB Serial logger) and my configuration has since changed (moved from Cumulus to WD)
Just wanted to sanity check what I think I need to do. New PC is running Windows Server 2016 (sames as Win 10 for drivers etc).

  1. Install Weatherlink (6.03) onto new PC
  2. Install latest Silicon Labs CP210x Windows Drivers and set COM port details in Device Manager
  3. Move Davis Pro2/USB Data Logger across to new PC
  4. Check communication is OK in Weatherlink
  5. Follow FAQ on this site to move WD to a new PC
  6. Check WD is seeing Vantage 2

Is this correct?
Do I actually need Weatherlink (I never use it) or can WD talk directly to the Davis USB data logger through the CP210x drivers?
Any gotchas or bits I’m missing?
Thanks!

one gotcha is to make sure to set weatherlink to serial mode (and not usb mode)
so that it uses the virtual serial port (usb to serial)
and then you can select that same port in WD
