Moon rise and set

Can someone assist me please.

Why is my moon rise 29 minutes later than it should be and set is 5 minutes earlier than it should be.

My sun rise and sun set is spot on its only the moon rise and set that is wrong.

where are you getting the info to compare to?

I just used my compare script for USNO moon data v.s. multiple software packages, and it does show the WD moonrise/moonset times are off by quite a bit compared to USNO and other software packages. I’d developed that script to check the calculations I’d used in the get-USNO-sunmoon.php script when the USNO data wasn’t available.

Brian, I’d recommend checking the package you use for the lunar calculations… something is definitely amiss.

Best regards,
Ken

the current version reports the same times as the older 10.37RBuild 81

Ken,
In your table, you show WD is reporting the moonrise for Dec 20th which would indeed appear to be around 9am in your locale compared to Dec 19th for the other sources in your table.
I checked what WD is reporting for my moon rise and set times with USNO and timeanddate.com and it is virtually spot on.
Regards.

I don’t know the exact Lat/Long that is being used but I didn’t see any huge error when I checked Huggy’s site yesterday or today.

From Huggy’s site http://www.fairfieldweather.info/fairfield.htm now:

Rise 7:20 AM Dec 20th
Set 9:52 PM Dec 19th

From https://www.timeanddate.com/moon/new-zealand/dunedin for Dunedin NZ

Rise 7:16 AM Dec 20th
Set 9:53 PM Dec 19th

?

Ahh… you’re correct Martyn-- I missed the day difference … #-o
Thanks for spotting that!

Many apologies I was reading my weather site incorrectly on the WDL thinking that the rise and set were for the same day
