crash pc and hd wd reconstruction [solved]

Hi everyone and body,

A complete computer crash hard and software has obliged me to reconstruct a new PC.

Not to badly orginized I saved part of data on an separate (D:) hd. After fidling around, I managed to recover
all of the WD folder that was on the old C drive. (system drive)

Now on the new PC, HD I have installed latest version of WD.

Question: (answers partly only found on this forum)

In the new WD folder on the C: drive, what are the files that I can, should, have to recopy from recoverd data. ?
What are the file I should NOT restore. ?
What are ALL the file necessary to restore exactly same previous configuration and settings.?

Thanks for any as complete as possible help.

Kind regards.

PS: As one may see, my signature is down. :frowning:

there is a FAQ here on the forum for transfering WD to a new pc
that should cover alot of what is needed

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your answer. As usual before asking for anything I go thru this forum support.

I did find that topic at: http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/10888

Problem, it was posted

what part of the FAQ is not working?

did you also copy across the datafiles and logfiles folders?

Yes I did…

Still not knowing how to correct

  • Day of last rain. ANSWER NOT FOUND
  • Days of rain in 2017. ANSWER NOT FOUD

Thanks for the help.

re the day of last rain
is that a custom tag you are using?
(what is that tag?)
(and same for the next question)

the more info you can provide, the better

Hi Brian,

$dateoflastrain = “%dateoflastrain%”;

$dayswithrainyear = “%dayswithrainyear%”; // Days with rain for the year

May be custom tags that I do not recall how to recover… :frowning:

Thanks regards.

for 1
you can set that in the wdisplay.ini settings file (when WD is not running)
[date of last rain]
value=

but if you are using a back up ini file, that should be being picked up

for 2, that uses the data files
make sure you have all the data files for this year

Hi Brian,

For 1: your suggestion solved it. Thanks.

For 2: As said, the reconstruction resulted from a complete computer crash. Some data file for 2017 where definively lost. I succeeded reconstrcting by importing .csv files from VWS that is running on an other PC.

I stilll have a question: Is it possible to convert the xxxxxlg.txt files to xx.inf files.? These had been rescued and it would have been an easier way to reconstruct!!
Thanks for your answer.

yes
via
action, convert WD logfiles to data files
also wunderground data can be imported too

Thanks Brian.

My case is definitely solved.

Others to come??? We will see…
