Cannot get light sensor to work

Hi folks, I have this light sensor, I want it to turn on the
Fan when it gets to a certain lux, thing is, when I put power to it I cannot get any output from it whether the relay is
Activated or not, I even bought another cause I thought the
first one was a dud

Here’s the images, any ideas please?

Does this have a separate light sensor component? I don’t see one in the picture.

It may be obvious but the relay output is only a switch, you can detect it switching with an ohmmeter but you won’t see any voltage.

Do you have a diagram of how you have connected it?

Hi Niko, yes it does have a separate component that plugs
Into the white socket, sadly no diagram, but I tried to wire up
The fan using all the different combinations on cn1, cn2, and com, I was expecting it to activate the fan when the light
Reached a certain lux, using my voltage meter, there is no
Output voltage from any of those outputs points, have I bought
The wrong unit?

You need to use an ohm meter to test the outputs.
The middle output is the common on the 3 connection side.
A relay is just a switch, it will not output any voltage unless you apply voltage to the common.

To test that it’s working, use your ohm meter, set to “OHMS”.

More info here: http://www.buildcircuit.com/how-to-use-a-relay/

You need to connect it like this, not sure which CN to use, probably one is On and turns Off, and the other is Off and turns On

Here is a better explanation of how a relay works.

Thanks guys, are we in about dotting like this?
Bear in mind that the wire could be the wrong way round on the output

No, standby, I’ll update your image.

Crikey, no wonder I couldn’t get it to work, I can work from you image, thanks, I would never have figured that out :? #-o

Hi, see upload, below.

teal.

You may have to swap the connection from CN1 to CN2 if it turns off when you want it to turn on

Thanks Teal, that’s about the only part I figured out
Thanks Niko, yeah, I thought I may have to swap

Forget that it’s an electronic module, for circuit purposes the relay output is just a switch:

That makes more sense, never have been good at electronics
Bodging stuff is my forte’ 8)

Is Niko secretly this guy!

Um, no, I’m more in the style of this guy:

Bashy, where did you get that Lux sensor?

Be sure to let us know how it works out for you.

Found this on Amazon.

There’s a lot of them on ebay too.
