Quick first impressions of iWD for Android
« on: September 17, 2013, 11:16:02 PM »
Very excited about this, Brian.  Nice job!

A few quick hitting thoughts, and please just accept them as constructive criticism…

I would agree with ed2kayak in the other thread about the dials being a bit hard to read.  Overall their display just isn’t as ‘pretty’ as what is possible with new, high-res phones.  Perhaps at least make the two dials the same size.

As above, some newer, updated and nice looking current conditions icons would be nice versus the old WD ones.

If possible perhaps make the backgrounds on the graphs semi-transparent so they blend in better with the background.

Perhaps make it so a tap on the graphs take you to graphs page.

Or…  Remove the graphs from the main screen entirely.  Leave the dials, make the text-based conditions bigger and easier to read at a glance.  Then perhaps a tap on a given condition takes you to the graph page and loads the graph for that condition.

I know with mobile development, aligning elements can be difficult  but the high / low temp, humidity, pressure, rainfall are misaligned or at least that is how they appear to be to my eye.  Labeling what those numbers represent might me kind of nice too if there was room.

I would move the setup tab all the way to right as having it in between the data displays is out of place.  Perhaps combine the setup and units tab.

Kinda slow to start up...l 19 seconds on a lightly loaded standard Droid Razr.

Don’t ban me for offering these thoughts.  ;-)  Hope it helps as you move forward with development!

only takes 7 seconds to start up on my S4
but I have come up with a way to increase the start up time..taken 1 second of that...for next version

I can certainly make the background transparent...could even make that user selectable

the hi/lo temp I designed to be different alignment that the other data...I dont see it would be better to have them in a row...I think it would be better to have them like they are, just to give a bit more variety in the look
its not difficult to align with the compiler..

of course there is always lots of opinions

the iphone version has been in use since april and has been well liked

Sorry for the slow reply.  New version is definitely faster to start up.

Hopefully the rest of my suggestions didn't offend.  Simply offering some things that I thought could be improved to make iWD the best PWS app out there.   :D
