1 Wire Lightning setup

Hi,

I’ve been searching the forum and found some info about dallas 1 Wire lightning, but all the info is from 2005, and all the links are dead.

I have bought the following:

1-Wire USB Adaptor DS9490R-P
Adaptor Cable RJ45 to RJ11 3ft (1m) CABLE-A-P
Lightning Detector (Moisture Resistant Coating: Yes (+4.00)) LD4-R1-A
Power Injector PI2-R1-A

The power adaptor to the Power injector I all ready had.

I have installed the 64 bit java and the drivers to the USB adaptor. I have connected the cabled correct and I have installed a 9v battery in the lightning detector.

With the software OneWireViewer I can see the following devices:

Device Address: 5300000030BD8B81 (81 8B BD 30 00 00 00 53)
Name: DS1990A

and

Device Address: 450000000FC69E1D (1D 9E C6 0F 00 00 00 45)
Name: DS2423

The second device is the lightning detector (counter).

The hardware seems to work, but here is my question and need for a little help.

How do I setup the WD to use my 1 wire hardware and even more important: How do i test the lightning detector ?

I have heard, that an electronic lighter can be uses as a lightning, but is that correct ?

This is the lightning detector: http://www.hobby-boards.com/store/products/Lightning-Detector.html

How much antenna do I need, and do I even need something for a simple test ?

Any updated help will be appreciated and I would love to see creendumbs from the Weather Display for the setup.

Thanks

Henrik

I think that’s the 2005 info.

I’m going to try and update Bob’s FAQ for the latest version of WD as there’s a few changes to the 1-Wire setup since Bob wrote the FAQ.

Henrik,
Give me some time to put screen shots together and I’ll let you know when it’s done.

There is now a “Generic 1-Wire Setup” FAQ available here: http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/55402

I can’t write a specific one for the lightning detector as I don’t have one, well I do but it’s the older version and it’s broke. #-o
But the WD setup is about the same as Bob’s post, as far as I can tell.

Open Control Panel > Dallas 1-Wire > Lightning Setup > tick “I have a lightning detector” and then go to “Rain Gauge Type / Save” tab and click on the “Save / Reset” button and close the window.
Now go to View > 1-Wire / Nexstorm Lightning Count > Settings > and make the settings that suit your needs, then click “OK” to save.
