10,123 Lightning Strikes Hit California on Sept. 9-10

Had a thunderboomer come through my area last night with quite a bit of lightning and thunder. Most of it went south of me however, one lightning strike must have hit a power line, transformer, or something and lost power for a few seconds, just enough to bring down my computers. They are getting some severe t-storms in Southern California at this hour and some of them may drift up this way. 20% chance of t-storms until Sunday nite here.

that reports mentions numerous fires were started by the strikes I see
thats not good

Had another 5,000 lightning strikes between Sept. 10-11 which resulted in 4 new fires. Luckily, they were all contained. This was all due to a low that sat off the Southern California coast for a few days bringing up moisture from the south.

I don’t understand why most of the strikes occurred in Southern California yet all the reported fires seem to be in northern California, especially since Southern California is generally more likely to get fires since it is drier there. I used to live in Contra Costa county near Mt. Diablo. I currently live in central California south of Kern county, where there were fires, and I didn’t observe any activity here.

Kern County is a the southern end of central California. Any thing south of there is in southern California. I live in eastern Kern County. In a city called Tehachapi.
