Yep, you read it correctly, there are wild fires burning in the Scottish Highlands at the moment. 8O
Some have been going for days and one, on the Torridon Mountain Range, is covering about 10 square miles at the moment. Not large by Californiain standards I know, but this is Scotland and it’s only the start of May!!
At home yesterday we had a covering of smoke for most of the afternoon and could smell it in the air. The closest fire to us is 50-60 miles away. Unseasonal warm temperatures and Sunshine over the last few weeks has dried out the heather and when this goes then it can be difficult to put out as the fire gets down into the peat and can burn underground, unseen.
