1-wire usb recommendations

Hi all,

Seasons greetings to all

It’s been a while since I’ve done any updates to my weather station (or posted here for that matter ) and I reckon that 2011 will be a good time for an upgrade of hardware and the website.

My new WD pc is going to be an eMachines Netbook pc which only has usb ports - no serial. This means I need to change how I plug in my 1-wire. I was looking at using the LinkUSB here http://www.ibuttonlink.com/linkusb.aspx. Has anyone had experiences with other ‘off the shelf’ usb to serial devices, it appears that they won’t all support the data lines that 1-wire requires?

Many thanks
Colin.

This is what I use from Hobby Boards.

That’s what I use too. I have had no problems with it. Once every six months or so, it goes nuts, but it resets just by unplugging it for a few seconds.

Thanks guys, as it happens I have one of those kicking around in the parts box so I’ll give it a go. I had issues with the ‘regular’ rs232 adapter when I first started out with 1-wire so I ended up with the Link12 which fixed all my issues. Fingers crossed the usb one is ok.

Cheers
Colin.
