Thick Smoke

We are having very thick smoke due to forest fires and no wind to blow it away. Visibility is about 1/8 mile.

this doesn’t help

:frowning:

Did you send an image? or a link? whatever, it’s not working…

I’m a little worried about the webcam. It’s currently showing a temp of 123.5degF :firestarter:

The web page says the sky really is orange, but the smoke looks pink at the moment, or is that because the smoke in the sky is filtering the white light and only leaving the pink components?

i wanted this http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ak/nwis/uv?format=gif&period=31&site_no=15514000

river is very low too :frowning:

The data for the Chena River is somewhat misleading since the river has flood-control regulation. However, check out the Tanana River (at Fairbanks) and notice that both gauge height and discharge are increasing. This is a result of snow and glacier melt during this time of year.

Chris, yes, I have a problem with regulating the temperature of my webcam. The heat generated by the camera is good in the winter but now it’s affecting the image quality and offsetting the colors. I get too much green. The sky right now is orange-ish due to the sun coming through the smoke but not as much as shown on the webcam image. Plus, I have two orange streaks in the upper right which are due to direct sunlight and damage to the sensor. Perhaps the camera will go back for an overhaul this fall.

FYI, the most popular store in town today is the one with electrostatic precipitator air cleaners. People are going in there just to breath normally.

We’re seriously smoked in here. People to the NE of us are being evacuated due to the extreme fire danger from the nearby Boundary Fire. This fire is about 25 miles NE of us and is currently at about 120,000 acres in size. Winds are forecast to be 20-30 mph from the NE for the next 24 hours.
