Closings of airspace

Readed this morning many of the Nordic countries + Scotland has at least partly, if not totally closed their air space due to the volcano erupt in Iceland yseterday and no flights are allowed.

 • Norway is totally closed
 • Finland, Sweden, Scotland are partly closed
 • Denmark, UK, Nederlands will maybe be closed

Scottish Airports are closed and there are restrictions on the number of flights in the UK airspace, just this minute they said all domestic flights cancelled but not sure if that applies to the whole UK or just the north at present. Looks like the areas affected will get larger as the ash cloud moves unless the upper wind direction changes dramatically.

Stuart

is it me or have there been a a vast more amount of earthquakes and volcano eruptions over say the past 3-6 months?

Been announced that all non-urgent UK flights suspended from Midday.

Stuart

I wish they would get that thing under control. It has got to be contributing to global warming!

maybe taxing the volcano on its emissions?
My car is a band G for tax i believe, wonder what band the government would put the volcano

All UK airspace and much of Northern Europe closed until 1800 at the earliest. Likely to continue though until 2359.

I told Gordon Brown that he should have let the Icelandics off repaying their loan!

Volcanic ash from Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallaj

UK airspace is now closed until 07:00 Friday morning at the earliest.

Stuart

Norway airspace are closed at least until tomorrow, Sweden & Finland will be closed from 21 local time.

Here are links to a sat photo from NOAA with a clear view of the ash cloud as it makes its way up through Norway.

The ash from the Eyjafallajokull Volcano in Iceland swept toward mainland Europe on Thursday, causing air travel chaos as one country after another closed its air space for safety reasons. Volcanic ash can cause jet engines to shut down. The United Kingdom, France, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands announced the complete or partial closure of their air space, authorities in each country said, as reported by CNN.

Apparently Icelandic records indicate that volcanic activity could continue for 2-3 years.

There is not so many flight in the air over Europe.

Currently UK airspace is closed until 01:00 Saturday according to the latest info. Friends of ours were supposed to fly back from Sharm El Sheik on Thursday evening following a two week holiday there, heaven only knows when/how they will return.

Stuart

It’s the same in Denmark, here in Sweden so is some flights aloud (emergency flights)

Hey!
