Power Measurment

In the 1 wire Lighting Folder there is an ROM ID for Power Usage?
Is this used in anyway?.

Background.

My utility power meter has a LED that flashed every “1 watt” consumed.
I believe these are quite common in UK and Europe

To interface optically with the LED I have built a optical sensor (now working).

This will drive a 1 wire counter (as used in HB Rain Gauge).
This part is in transit from Eric at HB

Could an enhancement be done to register and accumulate this count?

In addition I have a day/night electrcity rate in

yes, its designed to work as a power counter that way

I Brian,

I currently have the 1-Wire counter connected up to a power meter however the current WD does not work properly. I haven

Now have power useage 1 wire counter set up.
I also dont see any change in the graph or the KWh counter.
A feature or an enhancement request I guess.

Cheers
Peter

WD will need a value for the users to add to enter how many puleses per kwh as the meters are different i.e. yours is 1 per kwh if i read that right.

A modified copy of an email to Brian.
The meter I have pulses 800 times per kWh. When I had load running through it, it was pulsing around 14 times per minute when 1200w was being used.

Below are some calculations. I don’t know if they are right.

1000w / 800pulses = 1.25

1.25 x 14pulses per min = 17.7

17.5 x 60mins = 1050w current Watts

40w + 60w light bulb:

1000w / 800pulses = 1.25

1.25 x 2 = 2.5

2.5 x 60mins = 150w current Watts (I think this is higher because of the 1 min average)

1 x 40w light bulb:

1000w / 800pulses = 1.25

1.25 x 0.5pulses = 0.625

0.625 x 60mins = 37.5w current Watts

I would suggest 5 min averages would be the best instead of 1 min due to
the pulse rate being low causing the accuracy to be out.

Cheers

It was easy for me:) the info on the meter says 1 pulse = 1/1000 kwh thats means 1 pulse = 1 watt, checked out with an (early type) wireless power meter, which diplays the Kw/hour but alas has no PC connection.

Agreed other meters may pulse at a different rate, yours 1 pulse = 1.25 watts.

Maybe the code & graphs used in the “Rain” section could be basis for Power Useage

try a new .zip update

should start to plot on the wind direction graph all well (not retrospective)
using extra temp 2 data storage for graph

Hi Brian,

I have done the update, still no luck. Get a wered -value still.
I have two blue lines showing up now on the wind dir graph :?
In order to get 2cvman’s graphs working, could you please add the option to edit the how many pulses per kwh.
i.e. mine is 800 pulses per kwh but 2cvman’s is 1000

Cheers

try another new .zip update

Hi Mr N,

I’m perplexed… got build 26, how do I view the data as per you post?
In View WM2010… I only get the 1 wire sensors same as if a view then in the 1 wire setup?

Peter

this device interests me, where would i go to buy such a thing?

Go Setup → Advanced/Misc Settings → Under the Program Tab click Log raw data for testing (as rawultimeterdata.txt)
Then go into WS2010-13/WS2500 to see data.

Cheers

First you need a power meter that has a pulse output such as Trade Me (This is the same as mine) Pins 2&3 or 6&7 have the pulse optic isolated output (i.e. its safe).

You simply connect this up to a Hobby-Boards 1-wire counter minus the battery (removing the battery is a must) http://www.hobby-boards.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=42
I will see if I can attach a diagram if I can find it.

Cheers

I have found the problem
I was using a wrong variable in 1 line of code, hence the strange large negative number

will get a new update uploaded, and let you know, stand by

new .zip update ready now
now should work correct

Hi Brian,
Downloaded the right zip this time.
Get message …Power Count = 0.
I know the counter is working.
I’m using Page=15 used http://www.mrsoft.fi/ohj01en.htm to verify.

Cheers
Peter

Hi Brian

Here are the logs out of the WS2010-13/WS2500 debug.
I looks like it’s working ok now i.e. the numbers are changing per the power load which is a good start.
Just to confirm - Are the numbers below from the log the amount of counts per minute?
25.5
17
15
16
18
17
22 - Air con turned on
25
33
59 - not sure what happened here. It was missed by a minute.
29
34 8:18:58pm
30 8:19:59pm
32 8:20:58pm
28 8:21:57pm
33 8:23:55pm

The image attached shows what the Current Usage is shown, however that number is very low?
Going on the assumption for the numbers above are thw counts per min this is what I would expect shown in Watts.
25.5 1912.5w
17 1275w 17x1.25x60mins
15 1125w 15x1.25x60mins
16 1200w 16x1.25x60mins
18 1350w
17 1275w
22 - Air con turned on 1650w
25 1875w
33 2475w
29 2175w
34 8:18:58pm 2550w
30 8:19:59pm 2250w
32 8:20:58pm 2400w
28 8:21:57pm 2100w
33 8:23:55pm 2475w

1.25 value is got by 1000w “1kwh” / 800pulses = 1.25
(800pulses - needs to be a variable to be entered by the user)

Hope this makes sense lol.

Cheers Daniel

ah, I need to multiply by 60 then
is the value being plotted?
(but will be too low)

the calc value in the 1 wire setup is also a 5 minute average/…
