user guide [solved]

Hi every one and body.

Just trying to use (latest version) Virtual VP, the only user guide I found is dated 2006/04/06
for version v1.0.1, completely out of date…

1- Is there a new version of that user guide available? Where?
2- I need to use Virtual VP to run at the same time VWS and WD,
thus using a, Vantage IP data logger. I wish to avoid any kind
of aditionnal driver, often source of problems.

On VWS the only option for IP login uses a port (default: 22222) and the
data logger mac address. I so don’t see how to connect to Virtual VP

Thanks for any help.

Hi

Which version of VWS are you using ?

V14 allows you to enter the IP address as well as the port number - that changed from Version 13.

I’ve had it working but could not get reliable comms between the Weather programs and VirtualVP using TCP/IP connections. The TCP/IP connection to WeatherLinkIP worked OK, but VirtualVP reported that the TCP/IP clients had closed the connection very frequently, making the TCP/IP connections unusable. I wanted to get rid of the Virtual Comm Drivers too but had to go back to using them to get reliable comms.

I’ve just changed to Windows7 and am now using com0com rather than N8VBVCOM that I was using under WIndowsXP.

The current setup seems to be as reliable as on WindowsXP, but by no means perfect.

Let me know if you have more success with a pure TCP/IP setup

Dave

Thanks for the answer.

I am using vws v14p87

By menu: Communication/Communication, the only choice given by the
Davis Vantage Prop / Pro2(TCPIP) Interface is : TCPIP for a port
and Device ID (DID) Which is actually the mac address of the IP datalogger.
I so do not see how you did.
I am under XP Pro and do not wish to pass to W7 for my weather station
programs are spider web complicated and it would be a to great job
to switch without turning of the station for a long time, or buy a new PC…:frowning:

Thanks again.

I think IP Logger Support was added around 14.00P56.
I have used 14.00P101, 102 and 103, currently on 14.01P03

Maybe the window text has changed, but probably not the functionality ?

In the TCP/IP communications box, I have two text entry boxes

TCPIP Port - the default is 22222 for WeatherLinkIP but I could enter a VirtualVP port number here (e.g. 5511)

Device ID (DID) or IP Address
I entered the IP Address for the local machine 192.168.x.x but I think that you can probably use 127.0.0.1 if VirtualVP is on the same machine. (I think I tried both ways with the same results as I described).

The example text below that box shows either a DID or an IP Address

Hi everyone and body,

Besides the fact that a user guide updated would still be very useful…

I connected VirtualVP with success to VWS

1- On the router make a reservation IP for the weatherLinkIP datalogger
ex: 192.168.1.123 for mac address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 (port forward if you want to access remotely…)
2- VirtualVP settings:
a- VantagePro Console: Ethernet address: 192.168.1.123 port: 22222
b- Virtual Console TCP/IP settings: VWS: PC protect: yes Address: 127.0.0.1 port: 5511
3- VWS Communucation: TCPIP: 5511 Devise ID: 127.0.0.1

I had been working for a few hours OK. Will wait a fex days before saying “Bingo” :smilebox:

Thanks for the help.

PS: The only thing I did not test, not to have to stop my station is if Wamp or EasyPHP are mandatory.
As I have a local server running due to local mySQL databases, 127.0.0.1 is definetely active on my PC.
