Can I use another wdlconfig?

Hi all, apologise if already on forum or in wrong thread.

I want to add another persons wdl.swf to my website, I have there permission to do this but need to know 1st if it is possible and second how to.

I would create a second page on my site 1 with my data and a second with his.

Any help or info or even a point to another thread would be greatly received.

Cheers

There are only 2 ways to do this really - either get them to additionally upload via FTP their clientraw files to your website or incorporate their WDL page using an iframe.

Julian

Hi Julian,

many thanks,

Do I need any of his files on my server eg. wdlconfig or the main swf files?

or are these the files he needs to ftp to my server??

OR is that a stupid question?

David

You can use your existing WDL swf file but you’ll need a wdlconfig.xml file for the appropriate layout of instruments you wish to be displayed. He will need to ensure the regular upload of the 4 clientraw files to your server.

Julian

I can now see my friends data on my server (the four clientraw files)
I have them in a seperate dir to my data files /data/friendsdata

I also have my wdlconfig file that i want to use + my wdl.swf I also have an index pointing to the config file

When I load the index file it wont load the data? I get the message “error loading data”

I know im doing something wrong but I cant see it,

David

Need to know the URL of that page to troubleshoot it.

Julian.

The page I’m having problems with is http://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/index.html

David

WDL on that page is looking at the config file at http://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/wdlconfig.xml

There is no location specified for the clientraw files in that config so WDL will look for them at http://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/clientraw.txt etc.

As they aren’t there you need to put into the WDL Configurator in the basics tab the exact path and name of each of the files or if you’re not using the Configurator then manually alter the xml file like this -

<clientraw>ttp://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/clientraw.txt</clientraw>
<clientrawextra>ttp://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/clientrawextrra.txt</clientrawextra>
<clientrawdaily>ttp://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch/clientrawdaily.txt</clientrawdaily>

I’ve had a look in the obvious places on your site but I can’t find them so you’ll have to do this for the correct locations.

Julian.

Julian

The Four clientraw files are being uploaded to http://www.wroxall-weather.co.uk/data/newchurch
all files are in the same dir (above)

So if the Four files are there + WDL + config it should work?

David

Yes it should - interestingly when I looked in that folder the files weren’t there. However there is something very wrong with the data files. Using the clientrawparser I can tell that the clientraw.txt file is far too big and the clientrawextra.txt and clientrawhour.txt are too small.

You can see this for yourself at http://www.tnetweather.com/wd-parser.php?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wroxall-weather.co.uk%2Fdata%2Fnewchurch&submit=Submit

I’d check the data is being uploaded correctly.

Julian

Julian

thanks for all your help, will have to look in to it.

David

The clientraw.txt appears to be a clientrawextra.txt since the identifier is “!!E10.36v!!” If your friend is using the custom FTP to send these files then I guess he has the created and uploaded filenames out of step. Also that’s a very old version of WD (if it is WD) and I think it is too old to work with the current WDL so your friend needs to upgrade.

Thanks Niko,

will try to get it sorted.

David

Hi Guys,
Just got David email letting me know about this topic and the fact there are issues.
I presume that the clientraw fiels are in the wdisplay/webfiles folder?
As i upload already to my site as well, i haev had to use the GeneralFTP area to upload these files.
I did start by using the option to upload the clientraw.txt to a second server (but it seems it only does the 1 clientraw.txt so this method had to be stopped), but when using this, i did see a error saying it can’t access the local file, i am guessing this may be the root of the issues.
The upload to my site seems to be doing fine http://www.newchurchweather.co.uk/wdweather/wx3.html
I am thinking maybe this access issue to becuase the realtime uploader to my site has it open??

Any help on this would be great, i really want to help David out here with his really good site!

Forgot to mention, version of WD is 10.37N build09, its been a long time since i used 10.36. I have run WD for about 4/5 years.

DAVID - I will email you shortly.

Stuart

Stuart

That version 10.36 clientraw is on David’s site, is it possible you have some old clientraws on your PC that got uploaded by mistake? Maybe do a windows search for clientraw*.txt containing “!!E10.36v!!” ?

Hi Guys,

Between Stuart and myself we still cant get it to work. I can’t see what could be wrong with the data, If I take the files from Stuart’s website and then upload them to mine it works fine (I can’t do this every 60 seconds)

When Stuart uploads his data to my server I can see the files and all files needed are where they need to be, the index files points to the WDL and the config.

We are using the “General FTP” option to upload the files is there a setting in there that could some how change the data or file type. Is there a setting elsewhere that needs to be changed or added? Or is there another way of uploading the files?

Any thoughts

David

Please post a screenshot (.gif) of the page where the upload is set up. Currently the clientraw is a cleintrawdaily. There is a second ftp server option on the realtime ftp setup, why not use that?

ok fixed it.
i had a empty line in my remote filename area, i tried everything to get rid of it but couldn’t for days, so i just assumed it was there for a reason.
I thought i would try again by deleting everything in remote file name and local file then started fresh by selecting and naming all the files, all seems good now.

Now does anyone know of a way of getting a snapped screw out of a rawlplug that is stuck in the wall? Bluddy kitchen cupboard fell down and snapped the damn thing, now i cant get the ■■■■■■ out of the wall. ](*,)

If there’s any shaft available to grip then a Mole Wrench should do it (If they still use that term over there).
