Updating to website has suddenly stopped

Well here I am again (www.poplar.merton.sch.uk/weatherdisplay). I had 2 glorious days when Weather Display ftp’d to the web server regularly. Suddenly, on day 3 it has stopped (actually on 1 Oct at 4.40) I know that the message boards are full of this sort of event, but everyone else’s WD appears to have crashed, and mine hasn’t. The ftplog seems to suggest no reason for this waywardness. Personally, I can’t see why we don’t all stick our heads outside to see what the weather’s doing, but the school would very much like their investment working for more than 24 hours, so, Brian, Julian, or anyone - what is going wrong - please?

i have not received any reports of a crash?
or the ftp stopping?
which version of WD?

for your WDL web site, you will need to make sure that the clientraw.txt file is uploading OK to your web site
via WD’s clientrawrealtimeftp.exe program
make sure that is running still
and bring that program up visible, by double clicking that icon in the system tray
and then see if there is any ftp error showing
also check if that file is updating in the webfiles location on the actual WD pc

also, idealy best to stick to the one thread, i.e just post a reply to the original thread, rather than start a new thread , I would think

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate your help and assure you that I read every related issue on the forum. I carried out your suggestions, but cannot get WD (10.5) to ftp. I looked at the log, and it seems it is updating, but nothing is appearing on the website.

I wonder if you would mind casting your eye over the log which I am pasting here (I have a fuller one, but I won’t put that on) just to see if you can think of anything. Regarding the error 10053, I have taken the anti-virus software off. It is updating locally, by the way, I had a look at poplar.htm on the local machine, and it had bang up to date data on it.

note that because your first posting is about WDL not updating
then you need to make sure that the separate clientrawrealtimeftp.exe program is running and ftping the clientraw.txt file OK to your web site
check that

I just had a look at your WD created part of the website here and it looks as though you are using quite an oldish version of WD (1037G)…

It would also appear that the WD webpage has not been fully updating since the 1st Oct although there is a hint in the top summary image of a time of 1330 on the 7th Oct!! …

The FTP log above does not show anything as regards the “clientraw.txt” files being uploaded for your WDLive input on the link you gave above…

It may be advantageous for you to go to the current WD prog (see the latest downloads page) so that you may clear up any difficulties via Brian (windy)…

Edit: Ooops! Brian got in before me whilst I was typing the above…Over to you Brian…Sowee

even though this post was made today, the FTP log shows the last time the web site was updated was
Start Time/date:4:40:17 PM 10/1/2008
i.e the 1st of october
so they would need to make sure that WD was actualy running and getting current data from the weather station , at least

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. I had already made sure the ftpclientraw.exe was open and working, Brian. I am really unhappy about updating to a newer version of this software - all the settings and configs would presumably have to be done again. Why would a newer version resolve the problem? The summary was manually uploaded by me on the 7 Oct to check that the computer would ftp, but nothing else worked. I checked the upload times, Brian, and these were all set.

Neither of you has mentioned the error 10053 which I believe may be the problem. Internet research talked about problems with the VPOP and/or Winsock which means nothing to me. I removed the anti-virus software with no effect.

Before I look at another version of this software, I need to know exactly why an upgrade would resolve the issue. Could it not be a problem with the pc that it is loaded onto?

When upgrading WD you will not lose your settings. Make sure you install to the same location as your current install of WD. There is an FAQ on doing the upgrade…

Sounds like you have a possible firewall issue…make sure your firewall is allowing the WD ftp client access to the internet.

yes, no settings or data are lost
just make sure to install to the same location, and exit WD first
that error means that there is no connection to the FTP server, i.e either there is not internet connection, or the ftp server name is not correct or your firewall is blocking access
