wind direction scatter - oswmr200
« on: August 23, 2009, 02:16:17 PM »
hi,

I have just upgraded to the wmr200 and have noticed that under light winds, say less than 3mph the wind vane moves around constantly, and can record a wind direction range of over 180 degrees. the vane is located on a 3m pole so that it is just about above roof line. I was wondering whether putting some more weight on the end of the vane may make it not quite so susceptible to moving all over the place. Or is it just the turbulence from the site?

Has anyone else had similiar problems?

If the vane is quite close to roof level then there's a good chance that it's picking up turbulence from the roof, maybe more noticeable in light winds.
Raising the anemometer higher should stop this and give more accurate wind speeds in to the bargain.
