not enough colors in webcam jpg

I’m using a Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks Pro as my webcam. Initially it worked well aside from some problems handling the outside summer temperatures. However, sometime in the last couple of weeks the colors in the picture have gotten quite bad. It almost looks like it’s using, say, 8-bit colors instead of 16-bit. I can’t figure what I changed to cause this.

Do you ever have direct sun shining into the lens? If so, I believe this is one indication the camera is failing.

Azjerry - try getting into Camera Settings and reduce the Saturation figure, that should take the exaggerated look out of the colours. If there is an Auto box, uncheck that. Also Contrast can aggravate it as well.

Never been pointed at the sun. I was very careful about that.

I played around with the saturation and contrast but haven’t noticed any difference. I thinking that the summer high temps here are slowly killing off the camera. Too bad, if true, as it really had a pretty good picture at the beginning.
