I’ve been running WinAPRS for years on my weather computer so that I could transmit the weather data on RF locally and see it on the radio in my truck. At first, I was splitting the incoming Davis data stream with a B&B serial DataTap, and then more recently with VirtualVP.
WinAPRS on a PC isn’t the most stable program, and usually crashed the computer every 3 weeks or so. It’s a port of a Mac program, I believe.
In any case, I decided to start looking for a replacement for WinAPRS. I was looking at UI-View, but then, during yet another reboot, I ran across the APRS settings in WD.
In about 20 minutes, I had WD configured (serial port, data rate, lat/lon etc) and had it transmitting over the TNC that WinAPRS was using.
Checked findu and the packets are making it to the Internet.
Cool! That’s one less program I have to run on that computer.
Thanks, Brian!
