Help ! startwatch didnt start WD?

What have I done?

Hit close window instead of minimize, I waited for startwatch to start WD again… no go
Status just said stopping?

The only changes I have made lately are

1, Got rid of Norton is  most things that didnt work do now.
2, added more system memory.

any ideas??..Stuart.

Just the obvious…

Do you have a registered version of StartWatch? As I seem to remember the unregistered version will monitor but not restart.

Have you checked the settings for WD? Maybe you didn’t wait long enough???

–Dave

Hi Dave,

Yes I am registered and all has been working in the past…Stuart.

If you don’t get a better suggestion, I’ll look at my setting this evening and let you know what I have. I know mine works because when I shut down WD and am not fast enough StartWatch will have already started WD back up and it can’t do the update. I’ve gone to stopping the monitoring when updating.

Steve, will most likely be along soon to help out.

–Dave

What status did it show in StartWatch for WD after you closed it?

Could you send me the log and alert files from the startwatch folder?

Steve

Hi Steve,
Startwatch just showed the grey box, and said shutting down (for WD, same for Weatherlink)
This is how it stays.

I did try to uninstall startwatch and reinstall, when I did reinstall SN and Key code still there and all settings the same?

I will send you the Log and Alert files now… thanks for your time

Stuart.

Hi Steve,
Any ideas on why start watch is not starting applications /

I have had a couple more instances (weatherlink) in the past week since I sent the files you requested.

Stuart

I’ve looked at all the files you sent and couldn’t find any clues in there as to why this is happening. I’m going to have to do some tests to try and duplicate the problem.

Steve

Ok thanks Steve,

Hopefull I will have some spare time over the next couple of days, so will have a good look at things.
Stuart.

Hi Steve,

Any ideas as to why start watch isn’t starting any software??

I have since re installed it, entered my registration code again and set up virtual vp,WD and weather link.

Start up sequence works fine, I then close weather link, get the response stopping and that’s it?
While posting I have just shut down wd, that’s stuck on not responding… see attached.

I am now really stuck :frowning:
Stuart.

I have a copy of the startwatch.ini file you sent earlier, but it would be good if you could send that again to be sure I have your latest settings.

Also, when you send that, tell me which version of Windows you’re running and whether the account you’re logged in with has administrator privileges.

Hi Steve,

the settings may have changed because I set start watch up again.

Running Windows XP(home) full admin.

Just a note I think (not sure though) this problem started after I got rid of norton is for zone alarm and avg and added 1G of ram

I can email you as well… stuart

Hate to say but Ive given up !

Had to reboot the PC today, I closed all weather applications before doing so and start watch just sat there and did nothing at all.

And its got worse… on start up vpp encountered an error, start watch said no CPU activity and just left it at that, so all applications running with NO data!

So I have disabled start watch and will rely on the data saved in the data logger if there are any problems and check myself at regular intervials that all is well.

Great idea but just doesn’t work for me.

It’s weird. I can’t figure out what is different about your system that is causing it to not work for you. I’ll send you an email when I get the next version ready, and maybe you can try that and let me know if it works better for you.

Steve

Many Thanks Steve,

It really would be great if I could have Start Watch looking after everyhing again.

Rgds Stuart

If you want to give it a try again, I have a beta up now
http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/28791

It contains some bug fixes that may be the same problems you were experiencing. I’d like to know if these bug fixes solve your problem, or if there is still something lurking that I need to ferret out.
