Anyone else having trouble with crashing wdwebcamcapture.exe?

Hey guys, I’m having trouble with constant crashing of my wdwebcamcapture (v5.9).
Downloaded v10.37e b02, but no change*.
Now using wdwebcamcapture v3.6 which seems to work OK for now.

(* PS: also this morning constantly opening new browsers with ftp:/ftpupd.exe.
This is fixed with the new WD version I just installed).

i upgraded the webcam capture component, to fix a vista issue
i am not having any crashes myself
maybe check your firewall settings?

If it is a wrong firewall setting, shouldn’t the 3.6 version also have trouble with it?
But I agree that the source of the problem must be local, seen the fact that nobody else has this behaviour…

By the way, the 3.6 is working fine for almost 12 hours now.
The movies are created perfect.

Some Firewalls, such as ZoneAlarm, see the different version and require permissions for it separately from the previous version.

OK thank you Bob.
I’m using the XP firewall.
I added wdwebcamcapture.exe to the list of allowed programs and it is running now for over an hour.
I’ll keep an eye on it and cross my fingers

/edit:

After 80 minutes v5.9 crashed again :frowning:
v3.6 running now…

still no crash for me after 3 days now, ver 5.9…which is for me just as stable as vers 5.8 was (which I had running for 3 weeks before I upgraded that version)

OK thanks a lot Brian. It must be local then.
I’ll try to find out what’s exactly wrong here.

Do you (or anyone else) still have a version 5.8 of the webcamcapture.exe that I can download?
I do not have it anymore, but would like to try it… (and to have it as a backup).

there was another report of someone having trouble with the 5.9 version (after I upgraded the component used), but I am not having any problems myself

I do have a back up, but I have to find the drivers to that usb drive (after I had to re install windows (still slowly loading software)
but I have to head out now (and visit the local school (to talk to the headmaster (as I am now chairperson of the board of Trustees))

Yes going to 5.9 seemed to give me problems but it still worked creating the files even though it was not seeing a graphic in the actual WDwebcamcapture window but was saving and doing the 1 minute updates… in left hand window… all fine now with the B-03.

In this other thread the user lehautfourneau was having problems - couldn’t even open the WDwebcamcapture.exe window at all but was icon on lower bar… I suggested he used Task Manager and [Switch To] operation

You need to make sure to rename to just wdwebcamcapture.exe, it is listed as wdwebcamcapture5-8.exe on my site…

http download is here:
http://JaxWeatherCam.net/WD-Past/

I also have created a FTP Read Only Login for that directory (if you would rather use FTP rather then http download):
ftp.JaxWeatherCam.net
username: xjaxweathercam-WDPast
password: weatherdisplay1
(User and Password are cASe sensitive)

Thanks a lot Bob.
I also bookmarked your site for future use.
Great idea to save the old versions :thumbright:

Untill I find the source of the problem, I’ll use the old(er) version for during the day (when I’m at work) and v5.9 in the evenings (to experiment  )

this version ,6.0,I have added the debug to :
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/wdwebcamcapture.zip
i.e it should produce a .elf file in c:\ if and when it crashes, and email me that

and also i discovered I made a mistake when upgrading the component, which might be the reason for the reported problems ?

Downloaded it and it’s running now (since 17.11 local time).
Will let you know what happens…

Crashed after 18 minutes and produced an .elf file.
Will send it to you !!

the error file reports out of memory

how much memory on your pc?
also check with task manager, processes, for how much memory wdwebcamcapture.exe is using?
17mb for me and around 8% cpu

v5.8 uses 5 mB and v5.9 12 mB.
Also see attached image…

well, something the author of the component has done has increased the memory use alot…I will ask him about that

Hell Peter/Windy - mine is using 172 MB

When I try to run 6.0 I gen an error in the list box where it show the camera initalizing. It says ‘ERROR: graph can’t run’.

I switched back to my original and it’s working fine.

My wdwebcamcapture.exe crashes about once every other day, that’s why I tried the new one.

strange how I have never had any version of the webcamcapture crash for me

anyway, i have not heard back from the author yet, but what i will do for now if put the component back to the back i had and get that version included in the full install and for vista users have the latest version available for them to use (to stop the aero screen from disappearing)
