Advantage of 1-wire station?

Greetings,

I’m a weather newbie who would like to buy/build a weather station for my home.

What’s the advantage of going with a 1-wire system?
Are you able to save money over a pre-built system?

Quality-wise, everyone talks about Davis weather stations as being the best in pre-built systems.
Are builders able to get the same quality & reliability with homemade 1-wire systems?

Is Tim Bitson’s “Weather Toys” a good book to get started with? Any other recommended resources?

Does building a 1-wire system require skills like soldering?

Thanks for your patience as I get started on a fun hobby!

Good place to buy your gear from as well.

I have started to put together a 1-wire system this month. It has required no soldering and no special skills to put toghether as yet, if you can wire a plug you should have no problem. My one wire consisits of the weather unit,temp/humidity and barometer so far.Jobs to do are build a pagoda for the temp/humidity and buy a rain bucket then there will be other stuff but that will come later as I get more bitten by the bug for sensors.

So this can be as complicated or as easy as you want to make it it took no longer to install than my WS2310. You can spend good money on things for example a pagoda
