Best looking MML maps
« on: October 28, 2005, 08:43:22 PM »
As you may have seen, Julian and I will be putting WD, WDL and MML on display at a Royal Meteorological Society event in about 3 weeks time, see http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,11942.0.html for more details. It would be good to show off some good looking maps in MML, so I'm looking for nominations for your top three favourite MML maps.

Note: We will only have a 3G phone connection on the day (no Internet connections at London Zoo because the chimps would spend all day surfing if they had the chance), so we will be using the desktop version of MML with maps stored locally to avoid high bandwidth requirements which might also slow things down. So I'm not looking for the best MML web sites, just the best maps. We'll obviously seek permission from the map owners to use their maps and if the owner wants to add their website details onto the map (without making the map look a mess!) then they will get their name up in lights as well!

Please post the URLs of your favourite maps as a reply to this message. You can nominate your own map(s) if you like. MML stations can display multiple maps, so if the URL you nominate has multiple maps on it, please make sure you state which map you're referring to (unless they're all stunningly good).

Well I thank you Brian BUT I can think of many others better...

Not in any specific Order just ones I have seen and really like:

Chow http://weer.khoe.nl/index.htm  mesomap - Reuring-weer
Bill http://www.rawbits.com/weather/mml.html - Western States
Aardvark http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/mesomap_live.htm - Alaska
Eki http://saa.ekiwx.net/tupla.html (I like the possible versatility shown here but currently displaying a serial number error on 1/2)
Tarma http://www.weberweather.com/weather/MM/MM.htm Utah and Western US (Very nice relief maps)
Fran  http://www.miele-family.com/weather/indexmml.html   North America (Nice look)
Norbert  http://www.wetter-2u.de/MesoMap/MesoMap.html  I really like the Kanaren (multiple islands on one map positioning looks great) and Deutsland maps

Just some suggestions :)

I'll second Jaxweather's and someone had a good local area one. I'll have to figure out who had that one.

My vote (for a UK based map) would be the Carse of Gowrie Carsewether site with its splendid relief maps which I covet   at http://www.carseweather.co.uk/index.htm

Hey now that is a great use of MML, spanning the Atlantic Ocean :)   What a great idea stuartturrell and excellent implementation and I would have to Vote to place this map high on the list :)

 :D told ya! haha, thanks

Still some work to do on those maps, they only went up a week or so ago now. Still a few gaps to work on and a few crowded areas to thin out. But i enjoy it, its fun!

Since our prevailing winds here are Southwesterly, i was hoping to get some information on whats coming our way, its a shame we cant get buoy weather readings on MML too, what a powerful program that was make MML! (nice program as it is now tho!)

Have to agree there, just taken a look, they are all different, which is nice.

I do like the radar one too, and the stations on your map are well spaced (not to crowded but lots of information), must have a taken a while to do that!

I vote Jax too.

I have spent more than a few hours working up coordinates for maps and selecting and unselcting stations yes :)   But the work was worth it and it is a never ending deal as new stations sign up and I check for possible new stations about twice a week  :computer:

Be patient and you never know what will turn up. There might be some more stations available soon...but I'm not promising they'll be buoys.
