I will be upgrading my OS WMR968 very soon (within the next 2 months or so) and my limit is approximately $500US.
Obviously the Davis VP2 is one of the best stations for the price, but I was wondering if there are any better weather station out there for under $500US.
I think the VP2 is going to be your best bet Tim -
I’ve had mine with USB logger for about a year now - not a burp - getting a consistent 98% reception rate with the ISS about 200’ away - signal going through 3 walls.
Plus, excellent support from Davis, and some extra support here as quite a few folks have them.
It’s the latest and comes with the data logger and Weather Link and is under $500.00 the only negative is it has Weatherbug printed on the console. I called Davis and it’s 100% Davis VPII
The only problem I have with the weatherbug package is that I will not be able to connect it to the computer, so I’d rather not spend the extra $100 for nothing. Thanks for the info W4ZOO.

Thanks to both of you.

It is a heck of a price, beats provantage easily. But which data logger is it? The text of the ad makes several references to “streaming”, and there is a streaming version of the weatherlink, Davis part # 6540.
Where I have my console located, you cant read the face of the console to know if it said Weatherbug or Davis on the front of it.
I’m guessing this doesn’t have FARS in it. It would make for an inexpensive upgrade from my VP1 if I moved the solar suite from the old to the new unit, but FARS is a real necessity here.
I would end up donating the old unit to a school or something.
Actually my current station is coming down this weekend as it needs to be serviced by Davis. I’ve got to ship it out Monday.
Hi Tim
You have spent much time and money with your 968 which in my opinion is fairly good albeit basic system. Your problem all along seems to be connection to your computer. You could well spend another $500 and be no further forward. Surely the cost of a computer specialist sorting out what you have already would be a good investment. Perhaps if you later upgrade to a VP and its various add ons you would at least have overcome your initial problems and experimented with uploading a website.
