Custom Templates and Scripts / GoDaddy DNS Timeouts
« Last post by mldenison on Today at 06:16:54 PM »
Wim (Leuven templates) has identified a DNS lookup timeout on my website for both my Saratoga website (Space Weather) and my Leuven website (Sun/Moon/Earth ==> Space Information).  When the  'http://services.swpc.noaa.gov/text/3-day-forecast.txt' data is fetched, the GoDaddy DNS server returns a 'name lookup timed out' error message.  Sometimes it succeeds but mostly it fails.  There's a 5 second wait so that would be way more than enough time to fetch the data.

We're trying to get a list of GoDaddy websites that succeed or fail on this lookup.

He has created a stand-alone script which users can ftp to their website and run.

The goal is to find one or more GoDaddy sites where the time-outs do not occur and give these sites to GoDaddy tech support so they can determine what the problem is and a fix.  I've had four conversations with them over a four hour period in the last several days.  They don't seem to have a clue as to what would cause this failure.

You can find the topic and the script, along with installation notes here: http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=32322.0

Do please check your website and post the website link and the results to that message thread.

Thanks!

Mort

Yep, they've included headers in the response that prevents an iframe from displaying it

Likely, what you'll need to do is replace the <iframe>...</iframe> with something like
Code: [Select]
<pre>
<?php
   $STRopts
= array(
  'http'=>array(
  'method'=>"GET",
  'protocol_version' => 1.1,
  'header'=>"Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate\r\n" .
"Cache-control: max-age=0\r\n" .
"Connection: close\r\n" .
"User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (wxcoastalforecast.php - www.bwsrh.com)\r\n" .
"Accept: text/html,text/plain\r\n"
  ),
  'https'=>array(
  'method'=>"GET",
  'protocol_version' => 1.1,
  'header'=>"Cache-Control: no-cache, must-revalidate\r\n" .
"Cache-control: max-age=0\r\n" .
"Connection: close\r\n" .
"User-agent: Mozilla/5.0 (wxcoastalforecast.php - www.bwsrh.com)\r\n" .
"Accept: text/html,text/plain\r\n"
  )
);

$STRcontext stream_context_create($STRopts);

readfile("http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/forecasts/marine/coastal/an/anz531.txt",false,$STRcontext);
?>
</pre>

Yes, it's a bit messy, but it will solve the fetch/display issue I think...

Creating Weather Web Sites / Re: Who's Online Script - Pin Alignment

I think the markers are inheriting a line-height:1.6em attribute from the body element.
Try adding "line-height:0" to the marker div style to override it.
