WD SHUTSDOWN AFTER UPGRADING FROM LA CROSSE TO DAVIS VP

hi,
WD "freezes" for a while (uses all max CPU %98 - %99) then exits. Communications seem to be working fine it just freezes then exits.
Have checked out the usb power saving options and turned them off for all usb hubs/devices.
I have also reduced the baud rate to 9600 and the same results.

Brian...have you recieved any emails from my PC re the beta version...crashed this morning...computer name server.
No blocked attempts from the firewall.

I just enabled the onboard usb2 host controller and connected the station to that...see hoe that goes.

ok Brian...wd cracked em again and definately sent an email this time....I have updates set every 10 minutes and thats when it occurs, however wd has not locked up or exited yet...computer name is server. Here is the end of the program error log.

yes, i am getting the emails
try the latest beta/debug version, which should be redy soon, 10.27c

now, it wont now though email me the error, but if you are there when the error occurs, you will be able to copy/paste it to me instead (better in the long run)

now, is your PC under high cpu load at times?
can you try shutting down the virus scanning for a while as a test?

though, i think i know what it might be
have you in use the new daily log web page?
(dailylogout.html), in the web files/web page setup
if your dailylog.txt file is larger than a day in size, then that causes that error you see

(which i have fixed (hopefully) in the latest beta/debug and a new 10.27c version)


it must be that wd handling the davis station is more prone to not getting enough cpu than the 2315 station....
which windows version?
try allocating more cpu resoruces to wd (weatherd.exe ) maybe, via task manager

Yes I am using the dailylogout.html file.
I am running windows server 2003...there is hardly any other load on the CPU other than wd.
It is an amd athlon XP 2000+ with 1Gb RAM.
Could it be that wd is retrieving data from the davis while its doing a webfiles update and wd then cracks the sads? Maybe?

Just installed the latest debug and it didn't seem to send any emails after the first webfiles update...I have also set weatherd.exe priority to 'high'.

i think it was that dailylogout.html
was is use your dailylog.txt file longer than 1 day?

Hi Brian at the moment the dailylog.txt only has one days worth of data. Not sure about before I upgraded to the latest beta however.
WD lasted for around 2 days before it crashed this time...the line in the programerrorlog.txt reads...
Access violation at address 0040333C in module 'WeatherD.exe'. Read of address FFFFFFFC
Above error or program log occured at :4:20:02 AM 17/07/05

that darn pesky access violation still
i will see about moving more code out of the main part of the program (and coming/simplyfying the graph routines)
so that the beta/crash routine can more properly pin point some of the errors

but, i think the errors might be coming from an array going out of bounds...somewhere...(which then causes memory corruption)
so idealy i need to check every array in use, and put checks in to make sure that does not happen...
that will be alot of code to check!

also is there an option on the beta to automatically copy the error txt to the clipboard...so when it crashes when I'm not in front of it I can just paste the error into notepad when I realise it has crashed?

yeah no worries mate...the VP logger is saving all the data when WD isn't grabbing it anyway so yeah...A big advantage from upgrading from the la crosse.
