RealAle, you probably don't want to go TOO high above the roof level, but it really depends on how tall other buildings and trees are around your house.

If there are taller buildings or trees than the height your weather station will be at (I'd say a radius of 100 ft. maybe?), then you should be alright.

But if your weather station is going to be taller than all of the buildings and trees around your house, then I'd say it's a bad idea.

I'm not a real expert on this or anything, but I'm just giving you some advice.  Hope this bit of info helps.

Recently I moved my ISS unit in the yard to make way for a Pool.  I just looked at some pictures I took before we cleared out the trees and what it looks like right now.  What a difference.

The station used to be in the middle of the back yard in a clear area.  Now it is in the south west corner...

What area looked like before clearning...

That thing under the tree is a pure blue persian cat that loves it outdoors.
Messes the heck out of his hair, but I don't have to brush him ...

What the same area looks like now with the station on the 4x4.

More desert like....

You can see the ISS unit in the corner of both shots 1 and 3.

Heres my setup,

The ISS is  mounted on a pole at the back of my garage with the solare sensor facing South.  The anemometer is mounted on an aerial mounting pole above the apex of my roof.

As you can see from the photo, the weather in England is up to its usual standards  #-o

Again, thanks so much for everyone's help.  I will be building a new deck soon, so I am going to have to wait a few weeks until I can mount my anemometer a bit higher.  Once I am finished, I will let everyone know how the new setup is going.  Thanks for all the help!

Krelvinaz, you setup looks very nice (especially the new backyard ).  I was wondering if you had any pictures of the setup for your anemometer?  Thanks for the help.

I've been thinking about my new setup for the anemometer recently and I was wondering  8O...

If I want to mount my anemometer on the A-Frame of my house (on the side of the roof basically), what equipment will I be needing?

The setup I would like to use is something like this: http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/topic,8199.45.html - the post by wakarimasen.

Thanks for the help.

Oh yeah...and if krelvinaz could maybe post some pictures of his new setup for his anemometer, that would be great.

I am just trying to get some more ideas of what some people's setups are.

Thanks so much for the help.

The Anemometer didn't move.  It is still sitting on the roof using a vent mount on a 10ft mast.  I use a wireless Anemometer transmitter on it, so there is not cable down from the unit.

Oh...do you think you could post a picture of the setup for the anemometer?  Thanks.

I don't have a picture of the actual mount.

I'd have to get back on the roof to take one, not something I'm inclined to do unless absolutely necessary.

Lol...Don't worry about it (I'm sure your not anyways) It's not that big of a deal.  Do you think you could explain to me how you mounted your anemometer on the roof, though?  Thanks.

The vent mount is from Radio Shack.  The vent came with the house preinstalled.  8)

Whoops, didn't see that mentioned.  Anyhow, seems like you should get very accurate readings since the anemometer is about 10 ft. off the roof.  Thanks for the help and good luck to you with your new pool...make sure you enjoy it  8).

Here's a shot of my setup. My anemometer is mounted off my chimminy using two chimminy straps and two ten foot sections of antenna mast I got from radio shack. My ISS is mounted separately on a tripod on my rear porch as I don't have much yard space to keep it on the ground. I'm not using guywires with the mast so it does wobble a little bit in high winds but it does a good job. My highest wind gust I recorded so far was 58 mph back in October. So far it's holding up well and I'm satisfied with it which is a tough thing for me when it comes to wind speeds. When I lived in Florida last year, I remounted my anemometer 10 times because of poor wind speeds and eventually had it mounted 40 feet high up in a pine tree by a tree service guy. Thus my forum name "Windman" was born lol. Link below is a pic of my final mount in the pine tree in Florida.
