Help with the WD distro image and installing on my Raspberry Pi3

Hi,

gosh I must come across really needy but I can’t help it sorry!

Cut a long story very short but my consoleWD install on Raspbian isn’t reading all of my stations meters so I thought I would start afresh by downloading the working image provided by mihec https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=31636 on the ConsoleWD for Raspberry Pi Setup Instructions post (http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/58747)

I downloaded the rpi_consolewd.gz file from https://www.dropbox.com/s/x4ryw78637hm99i/rpi_consolewd.gz?dl=0, extracted the 1.img file (there was also a 0.fat file there) and then used Etcher to Flash the formatted SD card (I use SD Card Formatter for this).

During this process it gave me a warning: “It looks like this is not a bootable image. The image does not appear to contain a partition table, and might not be recognized or bootable by your device.”

Not knowing any better, I decided to carry on and pressed Flash and waited for it to write it to my card.

This gave me an SD card that said it needed formatting and was undreadable. Tried it in the Pi anyway and nothing. Wouldn’t boot.

In windows, If I right click on the 1.img file and select Mount. Windows errors with: “The disc image file is corrupted.”

Going back to 7-Zip, if I open the 1.img file I get a list of dirs.

My next step was to format the card again. Extract the contents of 1.img into a dir on my desktop then copy this across to the card giving me:

Directory of F:\ (F:\ being my SD Card)

Popped this into my Pi and again. Nothing. It wouldn’t boot.

Not sure how to proceed from here. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Peter has been helping me and pointed out where I was going wrong.

I unpacked the image provided whereas I should just have written it to the card which I have done and it has booted.

Interestingly. Etcher which is recommended by The Pi foundation didn’t recognise the image so I use Win32DiskImager instead which, once I changed the image type to . found it and wrote it to the card.

I replied to your other thread about changing the read delay (applies to wmr100 even though for wmr200)

Saw that thanks. This was me trying to rule out my install which it seems I have. Was keen to do this as I’m not the sharpest sandwich in the toolbox when it comes to computers.
