Build versions vs Regular versions

Ever since I purchased WD, I noticed the software version number hasn’t changed from 10.37S, but the build number has changed about 30 times since my purchase.

I’m curious as to what has to change before the software version number changes, for example 10.37 to 10.38, or 11.0. How high should the build numbers go before a new version is released?

I’m not asking for any new versions mind you, I’m simply trying to understand how version numbers work from a programmer’s point of view (since I am not a programmer).

Thanks!

does it really matter?

No, but like I said, I’m curious… being curious about something never hurt anyone.

if I made it 10.38 or 10.37t
then I am sure someone will ask what is different, what has changed
i.e I am never going to please everyone

I’m pleased with what you’re doing. I think you’re under-estimating yourself. You should be commended for all the hard work you do on this, taking a lot of your own time to do updates instead of spending it with friends and family. You must sitting at your computer almost 24/7!

If you look at the upper right of the download page it shows what is new in each build.

Version numbers normally change with a big addition to the software
Build numbers can go up into the hundreds, as per each minor change

Im not so sure WD quite works in this way, but has had builds at 300+

Just just need to see here for your answer regarding WD
