High Resolution Webcam for Still Images with Wifi Support
« on: August 22, 2017, 08:21:07 PM »
Hi Weather Watchers,

I am looking for a high-resolution, high-quality webcam to make snapshots every 5 minutes and upload to my webserver via Wifi.

I use currently a cheap HD webcam from China (Wansview K1). The images are ok, but not stunning. Also it seems the focus is not set to infinity, so distant structures are not sharp. A long exposure time for images during the night would be a dream.

I have just set up a website to display the webcam / weather cam including an image archive:

http://www.wellness-heaven.com/webcam/beispiel/#/2017/08/22/2000

You can see the poor image quality when you zoom in (click on the image).

Could you please recommend a good camera for my use case?
  • Minimum resolution: Full HD, 4k prefered.
  • Wifi support
  • Integrated http service / port 80  for image retrieval
  • Ideal would be a lens with a larger aperture for high quality images
  • Water proof would be great, even if power is connected :)
The webcam does not need to support FTP upload or timing of snapshots. The images are ideally captured via a http snapshot command, my script to retrieve the image is triggered via cronjob from my webserver.

Does a GoPro work somehow as a weather cam?

Thank you for any hints,

Tassilo
