U.S. weather forecasters said Thursday the cool flip side to the climate phenomenon El Nino has faded away.
The La Nina episode lasted only four months and was among the weakest and shortest on record, coming on the heels of one of the strongest El Ninos, said Mike Halpert of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.
La Nina, a cooling of parts of the equatorial Pacific that changes weather patterns worldwide, often lasts a year or more, longer than El Ninos. La Nina conditions were first detected in October and disappeared in January.[/size]
warmer than normal water is spreading north up the coast of south america
so it could be the start of a return to (weak?) el nino or maybe we stay neutral for a few more months
the weather pattern here the last 6 months has been like el nino instead of la nina 8O
one that is happening in this part of the globe (and I would say happening alot more globally) is a long peruod stuck weather patterns
Australia is getting record breaking heat waves, and we are having the opposite
Wouldnt be so bad if it was one or the other here but its just blurgh, wet and miserable, the snow is just embarrassing to say the least
it was that fine it couldnt close the contacts on the leaf, it looked like baby hail, I prefer a decent winter and a decent summer, but no, not anymore here in the UK, mediocre summers and rubbish winters
