I was set to purchase this software but decided that before I did I would see what others said about it on this forum.
Sounds like it doesn't work well and the developer is too busy to support it.
I think I'll save my money.

Yes, WeatherMap Live does use Flash, plus it was developed in the days before anyone could easily put data on a map using the google maps API.

Aha (or even better using Leaflet :)

In that case I guess unless it is rewritten from scratch it will soon not be of much use... Where does it get data from?

It has its own data server. The data is consolidated from public sources, and from WD users who have signed up to provide their data. It's quite a complex system and was ahead of its time when originally introduced, but now there are many alternatives.
