Is anyone pulling their installation of WDL?

I bought WDL as soon as I saw the first version of it, and had a blast doing some programming level design of a page, and of course continued to redo it and copy ideas from others who were much more design alert than I will ever be and also had the ability to do the programming type of instructions to make it do it’s thing.

I have the latest version, and from what folks tell me, the need for Adobe’s Flash to make it work is also it’s reason for a likely demise in the not too distant future.

My WD pulses the necessary data to my web site with regularity, and those data are now used not only by WDL, but also the new and wonderful kid on the block, Meteotemplate. It does so much more than WDL does, and there is no requirement for the Flash program.

Yet, they are so distinctly different in style and design that while I love the modern chic of the Meteotemplate, I also really sort of like the old WDL pastel colors and rounded boxes and gauges.

With the data being uploaded once, but often to feed WDL, I’m wondering about cutting down on the feed of the .txt file that I send, partially to decrease the outgoing data burden (although with cable I have fewer concerns about my in and out data counts) but also in consideration of the lessor frquency of update that Meteo requires.

Since WDL just runs solidly, there seems little reason to pull the plug on that program. But have others here who have experience with it have thoughts about turning it off or have turned it off?

Just asking how others are viewing the Flash liability.

you could setup the steel gauges instead?

I am like most folks…hang on until it is really broke. I like the Steel Series but WDL gives more. Yes, Flash is dead/getting killed off or so it has been said over and over for years now. When it happens I will switch over. I have people connecting to my WDL page that have no problems. I plan to continue using it.

I do still prefer WDL is has something the rest are lacking, there is also this one too GarthBock

Yes…I have been looking it over and I am really liking it. Wish it had the color graphing of WDL or at least some trend graphs. What is the refresh rate ? One thing though…one panel said it was raining and another panel said 0 rain for the day.

Thanks for the discussion.

As I said, each designer had his own ideas when they put code to RAM, so it is very nice to have more than one to choose from.

My WDL takes no effort from me any more, and while tempted to tweak a few things, it may have to wait until the winter really sets in here and being outside is just too much of a bother for these old bones.

I’m glad to see that WDL hasn’t faded and it will, indeed, be a sad day when I can’t run it, but needed some reassurance that I wasn’t being foolish in hanging on. Thank goodness I can put many display programs on my web server. And in the long run, it is what I do for fun and there are people who keep old cars running for a hobby too!

Oh, I forgot to point to the install I have running, and perhaps others could post the link to their page, too:

I get an Error Loading Config page when I hit your link

Mine from the WDL Tips and Tricks that I put together years ago…

I have the windchill index on top of the heat index thermometer so it auto switches between the two. Still more tweaks to try.

A few weeks ago I completed a rewrite of my site and removed all flash content, not only WDL but all flash movies and graphs. I use steelseries gauges instead of WDL, and converted movies to run with HTML5. I also dropped WML mainly as no one seemed to access it. So my site should now be 100% HTML5 and runs OK with PHP 7, although my hosting site is not yet on 7.

www got in there somehow, this works

Garth,
I now have solar but when I put up WDL I did not.

Now I’ll have to see if I can go back and add that in somewhere. Nicely laid out, thanks for sharing your site.

I think all data parameters are rate adjustable as for raining,
i have a home made rain duration sensor, it could drizzle all day and not tip the bucket but the RD unit will
tell WD its raining thus in turn show on the web site too, pretty much the same as if it had tipped the bucket

Black line on the graph graph below, you can see i had some light showers earlier, then it really started to rain

WDL is working fine here, no reason to dump it.

Niko…Thanks I should have tried dropping the “www” first thing.

Dale…If you want I can email you my doc so you can see some different things you can do with WDL. I hijacked the web cam button to display weather maps and the Radar button links out to another page.
