Hopefully they can get them off the launch pad without being vaporized.

United Launch Alliance (Boeing/Lockheed) is launching it on an Atlas, so the chances are much better

We are on the same page with this…cause unfortunately…those were my thoughts precisely…

The Atlas series has been good, let’s hope this one has success stenciled on it’s side.

I know satellites are expensive and development is glacial in pace to make sure of compatibility and all, but it seems like the recent (decade or so) wx satellites we’ve used are a bit long in the tooth.

Didn’t Japan launch a superb resolution and fast cycle satellite for the Pacific area last year or so? I remember seeing sample images from it that were incredible. yet not much about it lately. Does anyone remember the name of it or if there is a web site that has images, or doesn’t Japan give their data away?

Himawari 8 launched 2 years ago http://www.jma.go.jp/en/gms/

A direct link to the GOES-R project page is: http://www.goes-r.gov/ Which includes a launch counter, much more detailed information about the sattelite itself from a non-newsy direct project source.

Niko, yes that was the Japanese satellite. Thanks for the link.
