New up and coming weather station, 'Weather Flow'

yeah, I see they keep putting back production
but it looks like its because it takes time to test the battery life…they have found they need to use a repeater now…
maybe they should be using solar panel and rechargeable battery?

“we now anticipate conducting the Field Test in March and shipping to other backers starting in May.” :frowning:

They sure got a ton of money “$419,860 USD total funds raised 1857% funded on July 23, 2016”, I hope they make it.

Air is quite big aint it, no way that would fit in my temp shield, would need to make a bigger one
Would be weird without a console, although buying a cheap tablet would work well.

I forsee a frost issue for the rain and light sensors unless its heated of course (doubt that) but if frost
or ice builds up then it will be an issue i think?

Can it accurately measure rain amount using the sensor?

The other issue is distance from router, i believe they connect straight to the router? if thats so then
i would have serious connection issues seen as my router is at the front of the house and would be
about 20m away through 2 walls. I do have a repeater for my garden but its not ideal, my need to upgrade
it

I do really like the full set and will seriously keep an eye on it

I’ll do a little update on this. It’s been pushed back a number of times with the current pre-release date of March. The main reason for this was their first batch of units did not have the battery life they were hoping for. The components being used had much higher power drain than the manufacturer promised.

With no solution in sight they ended up basically having the redesign the wireless end of things. They will now be using 915 or 868 MHz range transmitters and using an indoor hub to receive it. Below is their latest status report:

Dear WeatherFlow Backers, We hope you are enjoying this holiday season, spending time with family and loved ones. Here

I’d rather have a station that worked and was a little later than promised than one I need to change the batteries on every few months.

kewl they mention weather display
I have not had info or seen any info on the API yet (I presume it will be REST)

Yes, they say it will be REST and WebSocket.

I have had a conference call with them now, about getting WD supported
great bunch of guys

That’s great to hear. Hope they will supply you with a system for testing

yes, I think that is happening in March
its great to have a weather station manufacturer willing to work with 3rd party software

just an update
I have been provided with the API and a test station to connect to via that over the internet and I have WD working with that station
so great to be working with these guys
(compared to bloomsky who basicly told me to remove my windows 10 store app I had created because it was using their logo and name :frowning: )

Good you have it working! I’m an early beta tester and will hopefully get mine next month so I can test both WF and WD at the same time

Hi,

I would use my Davis VantageVue as my primary weatherstation for publishing data on my website.
Would it be possible to use the data for solar, UV and outside temperatue (at 10 cm ) from the Weatherflow weatherstation for publishing on that same website.

TIA

yes, I should be able to do that

Latest update:

Increased telemetry range: One of the big benefits of re-engineering our weather stations (at the expense of delay) was a dramatic improvement in wireless range. In recent testing, our new AIR & hub maintained a good signal at a distance over 1000 meters ! (3280 feet) in clear line-of-sight conditions

Field test update: We

good stuff

Hope to get a pre-order going next month for the Air and the Sky units. I’ll operate them in parallel with my existing sensors to see if they track well. I’ll compare the Sky against my R.M young 05103, The Sky Haptic rain sensor against a oldie but goodie Handar 8" tipping bucket, the Air temp/humidity against a Vaisala temp/humidity transmitter. My Pyranometer quit on me over a year ago, and at a replacement cost of $170.00 or so wasn’t worth it. I believe the lightning detection is a AS3935 lightning detector chip or similar used in an Acccurite pocket detector (about $30.00 on Amazon (mine works pretty well and also a detect range of about 25 miles, so probably basically the same thing).

As a field tester I intend to closely compare WeatherFlow against my tried and true Vantage Pro. Will I be able to collect data from both weather stations using 1 instance of WeatherDisplay or will I need to purchase a second license?

My current VP 2 wind speed/direction unit is mounted on the roof. The transmitter is mounted next to a window so I can change the battery without getting on the roof. I wish the Weather Flow worked in the same manner. At my age, I don’t like roofs.

you can install a second version of WD onto the same pc and create a 2wd.txt file there and run it there as a separate version OK (and use the same reg code)
