Meteotemplate - new free website template

look at mine…

“localhost”,“meteolac_lalala”,“lalalala”,$dbName

or

$dbName = "meteolac_lalala";
$con=mysqli_connect("localhost","meteolac_lalala","lalalaoupsss",$dbName);

Hi,

the mySQL connection and the error you are getting is completely independent of the other settings in the template, which means that we know exactly that the problem is in the configuration of mySQL.

Are you sure the database exists? You must first create a new mySQL database, where the table will subsequently be created. This cannot be done by PHP, this is something you must do in the control panel of your hosting or on your server. Then, you specify the name of this database and the corresponding info.

If you keep on getting this error then you can be sure that the problem is in these two lines, as I said, this is completely independent of the other stuff in the template, if this is set correctly you would never see this error due to anything else problematic in the actual template.

Also make sure your hosting supports MySQLi

Try using just “localhost”

Hi guys, sorry there was a bug in the live gauges plugin. I have fixed it and uploaded correct version in the download section.

Note: only relevant if you use deg F as your temperature units

Thank you, typing just “localhost” solved my problem.

COUNTRY CLIMATE

A new plugin is now available, which I have been working on for quite some time and which shows you various interesting trends and data for climate grouped by countries.

The plugin uses lot of aggregated data and using graphs, tables and visualizations you can easily look at for example temperature trends in the last century, what the wettest decade was etc. All the data is based on the period between 1900 and 2012. It is actually quite interesting to see for example how the temperature range changed over the century for particular months (easily seen using the heatmaps), what the trends were, what were the maximum/minimum temperatures, what are the averages etc etc. There is definitely a lot of info and I hope you will find it interesting. I also optimized the script so despite the fact it contains tens of interactive tables and graphs, it still loads quite fast.

All the calculations require six additional mySQL tables which you must create. But do not worry, there is a script which does all this automatically. Once you have all your tables created it should work without any further setting up required.

Features:

  • climate data for over 200 countries
  • temperature, precipitation, cloudiness and potential evapotranspiration trends, values etc. grouped by years, decades and overall trends
  • can easily be translated, right now an English and French (thanks Jean) versions are available

Install instructions are provided in the corresponding blog post.

Jachym,

I love what you are doing here, but currently don’t use your template as I spent years developing my own (www.paulwilman.com). I would however like to use the live gauges plugin that you have written. Is there anyway that I could use it within my website to replace my steel series or WD live? I tried downloading the WD version, but as I don’t use the rest of your template there were lots of files that were missing.

Paul

Hi,
well in fact, these gauges are based on a script I created that was supposed to act as “partial replacement” for WDL, which will soon stop working due to Flash no longer being supported by most browsers. I had some test versions, and these showed much more than this, it also has graphs etc. The data is all pulled from the four clientraw files, so it was supposed to be something completely independent of my template. I excluded the graphs etc. because they are in other parts of Meteotemplate, but for this version I had it all there - looking lot like the WDL.

I only created one of the layouts, although it would be very simple to transfer it to the other layouts I later created for Meteotemplate. I got to the testing stage and I sent the files about 2 months ago to some guys here on the forum and to Brian, but I havent got a reply yet. On the other hand I completely understood they are quite busy, so instead of waiting I made a version for Meteotemplate, which I released recently.

So in fact, what you are looking at is based on the original version which was a stand-alone script for WD, where you could independently set units etc - I deleted these parts in the meteotemplate file too, because it uses the global template settings and that is also why you are getting those errors.

It is not so easy to actually migrate the script, I had to make lot of changes, so it would be worth it rather than trying to go backwards, to use the original script I made.

I am including a link so that you can see what the original looks like and as I said, this uses just the 4 client raws (whereas some data in the template version uses its MySQL database - another source of errors on your page when trying to just copy the code).

If you are willing to help me with this, I will be more than happy to get it finished and release it as stand-alone gauges for WD and also create the other layouts, just like I did for Meteotemplate. This test uses just one of them, because it is not to test the actual design, but rather the updates and that the data is correctly pulled from clientraw.

In this test version, in addition to the Meteotemplate version you can:

  • click any gauge to see min/max
  • view graphs using data from clientraw
  • set units independently
  • view summary tables (again all from clientraws only)

You will see that I changed the design for meteotemplate, but I can do that for this one very easily too, so I just need to get the technical part of it right.

Jachym,

More than happy to help you with the standalone version. I am no php expert but I like a challenge. happy to help provide you comments and test things out. Can also give you access to my clientraw files, which are all located within www.paulwilman.com

If you let me know when you want me to look at things I will do so. Feel free to PM me if that is easier. Happy to load test files up onto my host server.

Paul

Sure, that would be great, I will contact you during the weekend.

I only created one of the layouts, although it would be very simple to transfer it to the other layouts I later created for Meteotemplate. I got to the testing stage and I sent the files about 2 months ago to some guys here on the forum and to Brian, but I havent got a reply yet.
it worked fine from what I remember...did not know you were waiting on a reply, sorry, it was not clear that you were not going any further until you got a reply back

We did discuss some changes/improvements to the gauges version you sent out on 8/31, and I got a “I’m still working on it” email you sent 9/9, but I don’t believe I have received any files since then. The biggest issue (for me at least) that we discussed, and I’m not sure it’s feasible to overcome it with the graphic tool you are using, is that to substitute for WDL I would prefer a single page display.

Hi sorry maybe I just didn’t get that it was OK. Niko check some of the alternative layouts of the plugin for my template, I have several versions, some are more condensed. I would do the same for this.

I don’t recall finding anything that didn’t work in the most recent version that I have installed.

 I think the only thing we were talking about were the positions of the yesterday min/max, it should be something Brian has added recently, but I was not able to find it in the clientraws.

Also, do you think that it would be good idea to try to re-create the other layouts I created for Meteotemplate for this stand-alone WD version too?

You’re right, I was confused with the timelines of emails and PM’s.

CO2

A new plugin is now available. This one is all about carbon dioxide (CO2). The plugin consists of several pages, which show information with regards to CO2 concentrations and emissions. This includes both current and past data, which is presented using interactive tables, graphs and also maps.

Hi…
is the warning going to ve visible on all the pages ?

or we’ll have to go on the warning/index to see if something is happening ?

also,a way to have them in french ?..for the french to work…in the dataLoader.php page…line 8…replace the URL with : http://meteo.gc.ca/warnings/report_f.html?

ive test it,works fine

thanks

About the warning-Canada…

so we have to put a link in the menu to go the page to see if theres a warning/alert…

is there a way for the word ‘‘warning/alert or whatever’’ to turn green/yellow or red depending the type of alert in the menu ?

cuz normally,a weather warning/alert/advisory is shown on the main webpage of the website
