WDL not working anymore

Hi

I have been using WDL now for a few years and up until now it has worked fine - with one slight glitch. When I registered my copy of WDL live I used the URL www.gulberwickweather.co.uk which was fine to begin with but modern web browsers now ignore the www prefix. What this means is that when you go to the URL http://gulberwickweather.co.uk WDL will not display because the config file and the domain are not identical. As a workaround I created an Apache config file which basically redirects any request for gulberwickweather.co.uk to point to www. etc and this until now has solved the problem. This has now stopped working, heaven knows why. What I can’t understand for the life of me is why the config was tied to the URL of my website with no ability to modify it. My website is now essentially buggered and I can’t do anything with it. I like WDL because it is near real-time ( and so do my website users) and I know of no other software that does what WDL does. I don’t like the static dials that WD produces and for the life of me I can’t figure out how on earth to get steel gauges to work. In any case steel gauges can’t be as easily configured as WDL can using the configurator. It’s all very well if you have confidence in farkling around with HTML5 - I don’t. I’m at my wits end with this and looks like I will have to shut up shop.

Simplest answer would be a new serial no. for the url gulberwickweather.co.uk rather than www.gulberwickweather.co.uk is that not possible?

Modern browsers do not ignore the www prefix.

You can see this with my WDL which is set up for www. and I have no re-direct.

http://www.realweatherstation.com/wdlk/ - works.

http://realweatherstation.com/wdlk/ doesn’t.

Your webserver’s redirect is doing the opposite of what you state, it is re-directing “www.” to “non www.” and not the other way around.

Either fix the re-direct or ask Brian for a serial for gulberwickweather.co.uk which I’m sure he will be happy to provide.

It works this way because “www” is really a subdomain, like wx.yourwebsite.com, or weather.yourwebsite.com, so the licensing scheme has to understand the difference.
